Job description

FinOps Engineer

Do you want to bring transparency, accountability, and financial governance to a technology landscape that spans cloud, SaaS, licensing, and on-premises infrastructure? Are you someone who's equally comfortable in a room with engineers and a room with Finance? Then we're looking for you!

About the assignment

Our client's SaaS hosting and technology costs are increasingly distributed across cloud, licensing, on-premises infrastructure, and shared services. As that landscape grows, so does the need for transparency and financial governance, and the organisation wants to move from reactive cost management to a proactive, data-driven one.

As FinOps Engineer, you bridge the gap between technology and finance. The remit is broader than classic cloud FinOps: it spans cloud economics and wider technology spend, SaaS and licensing, software asset management, budgeting and forecasting, allocation and showback/chargeback, vendor and renewal insight, and optimisation governance. You create transparency in technology spending, improve financial predictability, and help teams make cost-aware decisions, turning complex consumption data into insight and action.

This is not a pure reporting or bookkeeping role. You don't just present the numbers, you own the models behind them, chase the cost drivers, and drive the optimisation initiatives that follow. You're comfortable with both engineers and Finance professionals, and you adapt how you communicate to each audience.

What you will be doing

  • Driving cost-optimisation initiatives across cloud platforms, SaaS, software licensing, and on-premises infrastructure
  • Managing software assets: license utilisation, renewals, compliance, and vendor-audit readiness
  • Creating visibility into technology consumption and spend through dashboards, reporting, and financial insight
  • Building reliable analytical and governance mechanisms, not just reports: SQL and data analysis, cost-data pipelines, API and data integration, dashboards and semantic models, anomaly detection, and automated allocation
  • Using AI tools and agents concretely, to analyse consumption and billing data, detect anomalies, explain cost drivers, model scenarios, and generate optimisation recommendations for human validation
  • Owning technology budgeting, forecasting, and spend governance across cloud, SaaS, software licensing, infrastructure, and managed services
  • Tracking actual spend against budgets, explaining cost drivers and variances, and proactively flagging financial risks and unexpected increases
  • Building cost allocation and financial-transparency models: showback and chargeback, plus ownership, tagging, and allocation standards
  • Delivering financial analysis that supports vendor reviews, renewal planning, and commercial discussions
  • Running regular cost reviews with stakeholders, and continuously improving technology financial governance.

Hard requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in FinOps, IT Financial Management, Technology Asset Management, or Technology Finance, with a genuine mix of technical and financial background (not a pure developer, but not a pure reporting/finance profile either)
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms and pricing models (this client's environment is Azure), combined with hands-on data skills (SQL or comparable) to build repeatable analysis rather than one-off spreadsheets
  • Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost allocation, and financial reporting, hands-on and able to deliver reliable numbers directly to Finance
  • Excellent stakeholder communication, able to adapt between technical engineering audiences and Finance/business audiences

About the organization

This is an established, internationally growing SaaS company that has spent years building software that helps service teams around the world improve how they deliver service. With revenue in the tens of millions and a growing international customer base, the organization finds itself at a pivotal stage: the platform is being modernized, cloud foundations are being strengthened, and there's significant investment in the engineering capacity needed to sustainably support global scale.

A culture of ownership, transparency, and pragmatic problem-solving is central: "you build it, you own it." Teams work in an agile way, in two-week sprints, using retrospectives to continuously refine how they work. The backlog is managed collaboratively, and there's plenty of room for personal input; engineers are expected to help shape the direction of the platform, not just execute on it.

The organization places strong value on open communication and constructive feedback, in an environment where every voice is heard. Work happens largely on-site, in close contact with colleagues across the various engineering teams, so knowledge is shared easily and decisions can be made quickly. At the same time, there's genuine attention to work-life balance and to the future of work: how to stay connected as a team even as the organization continues to grow and internationalize.

What we offer

  • A gross annual salary of up to €100,000 based on 40 hours per week, depending on experience
  • 26 vacation days
  • Hybrid working, including a home office allowance
  • A pension scheme with employer contribution
  • A personal development budget for conferences, certifications, and courses
  • A Vitality Budget of €50 per month for sports, a gym membership, or other things that contribute to your mental and physical health
  • Travel expense reimbursement or an NS Business Card, plus the option to lease a bicycle through the company
  • A modern laptop and phone
