MEP Coordinator

Purpose:

The MEP Coordinator is responsible for the technical coordination, planning, supervision and integration of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) services with civil, structural and architectural works throughout the construction project. The position requires strong site-based experience in UAE construction, multidisciplinary coordination, drawing review, BIM/clash detection, subcontractor coordination, authority requirements, testing & commissioning, and project handover. The role should ensure that MEP works are properly coordinated, constructible, compliant with approved drawings and specifications, and completed within the project programme without clashes, rework or delays. Current UAE MEP Coordinator roles commonly emphasize multidisciplinary coordination, shop-drawing review, clash detection, BIM/Revit/Navisworks, authority requirements and site execution.

Minimum Qualification & Experience

Mandatory Requirements

· Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, MEP Engineering, Building Services Engineering or equivalent.

· Minimum 8–10 years of total MEP experience.

· Minimum 8–10 years of UAE construction experience is compulsory.

· Strong experience with main contractors, MEP contractors or major construction projects.

· Proven experience coordinating HVAC, electrical, plumbing, drainage, firefighting & ELV systems.

· Experience in high-rise, residential, mixed-use or large-scale building projects preferred.

· Strong experience in MEP shop drawing and multidisciplinary coordination.

· Hands-on experience with clash detection and resolution.

· UAE authority coordination experience is essential.

· Candidates without substantial UAE construction experience shalll not be considered for this position.

Key Responsibility:

1. A. MEP Coordination

Coordinate all MEP services with:

· Civil

· Structural

· Architectural

· Interior/fit-out

· Landscaping

· Specialist subcontractors.

2. Review MEP layouts and identify conflicts before site execution.

3. Coordinate:

· Ceiling voids

· Riser shafts

· Plant rooms

· Service corridors

· Electrical rooms

· Mechanical rooms

· Equipment spaces

· Access and maintenance clearances.

4. Ensure adequate space is provided for installation, operation and future maintenance of MEP equipment.

5. Coordinate builders' work openings, sleeves, penetrations and block-outs.

B. Drawing & Technical Review

· Review IFC drawings.

· Review shop drawings.

· Review coordinated MEP drawings.

· Review architectural and structural drawings for MEP interfaces.

· Review RCPs and ceiling coordination drawings.

· Check equipment layouts.

· Review MEP specifications.

· Review material submittals.

· Review method statements.

· Review technical submissions.

· Prepare and coordinate RFIs.

· Track consultant comments and ensure timely closure.

· Ensure latest approved drawings are available at site.

C. Clash Detection & BIM Coordination

The MEP Coordinator shall:

· Conduct regular multidisciplinary clash detection.

· Identify hard and soft clashes.

· Analyse the root cause of clashes.

· Propose practical construction solutions.

· Coordinate clashes between:

· HVAC

· Electrical

· Plumbing

· Firefighting

· ELV

· Structural elements

· Architectural elements.

· Prepare clash reports.

· Assign clashes to responsible parties.

· Track pending/resolved clashes.

· Conduct coordination meetings.

Ensure approved solutions are incorporated into the latest drawings/model.

6. Site Coordination

· Conduct regular site inspections.

· Verify MEP installations against approved drawings.

· Coordinate daily activities with MEP site engineers and subcontractors.

· Identify potential site conflicts before installation.

· Coordinate work sequences with civil and architectural teams.

· Ensure MEP works do not interfere with other trades.

· Monitor installation quality.

· Resolve technical issues at site.

· Coordinate required inspections.

· Monitor MEP progress against the approved programme.

· Escalate delays and critical technical issues to the MEP Manager/Project Manager.

7. Subcontractor Management

The MEP Coordinator shall coordinate with MEP subcontractors regarding:

· Shop drawings

· Material submittals

· Method statements

· Work programmes

· Manpower

· Materials

· Installation sequence

· Inspection requests

· Testing & commissioning

· Snagging

· As-built drawings

· O&M documentation.

The role should also monitor whether subcontractors are executing work in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, project requirements and agreed programme.

8. Authority & UAE Compliance

The candidate must have practical familiarity with relevant UAE authority requirements applicable to the project, including, where applicable:

· Dubai Municipality

· DEWA

· Dubai Civil Defence

· Abu Dhabi authorities

· Local municipality requirements

· Civil Defence requirements

· Utility/service-provider requirements

· Project-specific authority requirements.

The candidate should be capable of coordinating technical requirements and supporting inspections/approvals.

9. Testing, Commissioning & Handover

Coordinate and monitor:

· Pressure testing

· Hydrostatic testing

· Duct leakage testing where applicable

· Flushing and cleaning

· Insulation inspection

· Electrical testing

· Fire alarm testing

· Firefighting testing

· HVAC testing and balancing

· Equipment commissioning

· BMS testing

· Integrated system testing

· Snagging and de-snagging.

· Support preparation of:

10. Documentation & Reporting

· Maintain and monitor:

Prepare daily, weekly and monthly MEP coordination/progress reports as required.

Declaration:

The above-mentioned duties and responsibilities are subject to change as per organizational requirements and the additional responsibilities can be added based on the changes in scope, structure and size.

Pay: AED12,000.00 - AED14,000.00 per month
