Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Plumbing and Firefighting Engineer to design, oversee, and execute complex public health and life safety systems. In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of water supply, drainage, and firefighting systems for commercial, residential, and industrial projects. You will ensure all designs comply with local building codes, international standards, and safety regulations from concept to final commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

System Design & Engineering

  • Plumbing & Drainage: Design comprehensive domestic water supply (hot and cold), water treatment, internal/external drainage, storm water management, and rainwater harvesting systems.
  • Firefighting Systems: Design fire suppression systems, including automatic sprinklers, wet/dry risers, fire hydrants, clean agent gas suppression, and fire pump rooms.
  • Calculations: Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, pump head calculations, and hazard classifications using industry-standard software.
  • Drafting & Modeling: Review and guide the creation of detailed 2D CAD drawings and 3D BIM (Revit) models.

Project Execution & Management

  • Specifications: Prepare detailed technical specifications, Bill of Quantities (BOQ), and cost estimates.
  • Material Selection: Review and approve material submittals, technical data sheets, and vendor proposals.
  • Site Supervision: Conduct site inspections to ensure installation aligns with approved drawings, quality standards, and safety protocols.
  • Testing & Commissioning: Oversee the testing, flushing, and commissioning of plumbing and fire networks alongside authorities.

Compliance & Collaboration

  • Code Compliance: Ensure all designs strictly adhere to local civil defense codes, NFPA standards, IPC, and UPC regulations.
  • Coordination: Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and other MEP disciplines to resolve spatial conflicts.
  • Authority Approvals: Prepare and submit technical packages to local municipalities and civil defense authorities to obtain the approval.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4–6 years of proven experience specializing in plumbing, drainage, and firefighting engineering.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or accreditation from local engineering authorities/Civil Defense is highly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Software Proficient: Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and hydraulic calculation software.
  • Standards Expert: Deep understanding of NFPA codes (13, 14, 20, 200), International Plumbing Code (IPC), and Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC).

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for client and authority-facing meetings.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage site technicians and draftsmen.
