Senior Design Engineer Automation

Location: Oss, Netherlands

Hours: 40 hours per week

Our client, Organon , a leading global healthcare and pharmaceutical manufacturing company, is expanding its state-of-the-art manufacturing operations in Oss. As part of a major greenfield and site expansion programme, we are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer Automation to play a key role in designing, implementing and commissioning advanced automation solutions that will support the next generation of pharmaceutical production.

This is an outstanding opportunity to work on one of the most significant pharmaceutical expansion projects in the Netherlands, collaborating with international project teams, global IT specialists and industry-leading vendors.

The Role

As a Senior Design Engineer Automation, you will lead the design, integration and deployment of automation and control systems for new manufacturing facilities and equipment. Acting as a technical expert throughout the project lifecycle, you will be involved from initial requirements gathering and system design through testing, validation, commissioning and handover.

Success in this role requires strong technical expertise in industrial automation, experience within regulated environments and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer automation solutions that meet operational, business and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct requirements analysis, impact assessments and technical risk evaluations.
  • Develop, review and maintain automation design documentation.
  • Support the integration and implementation of new manufacturing systems and equipment.
  • Plan, execute and document FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ and PQ activities.
  • Collaborate with system vendors and engineering partners throughout project delivery.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges and drive resolution during project execution.
  • Support project planning, scope definition, effort estimation and technical decision-making.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify project risks and deviations.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, GAMP and internal quality standards.
  • Support commissioning activities and successful handover to operations teams.

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in industrial automation projects.
  • Strong PLC programming and automation experience, preferably with Siemens and/or Rockwell platforms.
  • Experience with DCS and SCADA systems, ideally iFix.
  • Proven experience in equipment integration, commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Hands-on experience with FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ and PQ testing.
  • Experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of GMP and GAMP compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with OT infrastructure, industrial networks and Windows Active Directory.
  • Fluent Dutch and English communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel within Europe when required.

Preferred Experience

  • Greenfield or large-scale manufacturing expansion projects.
  • MES integration projects.
  • Knowledge of ISA-95 and/or ISA-88 standards.
  • Experience working in multinational project teams.
