Lecturer (Freelance/ Part Time)

Berlin College of Business and Technology

Location : Berlin campus, CIC Berlin, Lohmühlenstraße 65, 12435 Berlin

Courses : Formal Languages, Computability and Complexity | Computer Networks

About the College

Berlin College of Business and Technology is a private higher education institution based in Berlin. Our programmes are delivered in academic partnership with Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi, which confers the degrees. We teach small international cohorts in business and technology, with entrepreneurship as the logic that runs through the institution.

The Role

We are looking for a freelance lecturer to deliver one or both of the following courses on our Berlin campus.

Applications for a single course are welcome.

Teaching runs across a twelve week term. Sessions are two hours, weekday daytime, scheduled inside a 10:00 to 18:00 window. Delivery is in English, on campus.

1. Formal Languages, Computability and Complexity- Bachelor of Computer Engineering

Indicative content: finite automata and regular languages, context free grammars and pushdown automata, Turing machines, decidability and undecidability, reductions, complexity classes P and NP, NP completeness.

2. Computer Networks- Master of Computer Science

Indicative content: layered architectures and the TCP/IP stack, link layer and switched Ethernet, IP addressing and routing, transport layer with TCP and UDP, application protocols, network security fundamentals, performance and measurement, practical work with packet analysis and simulation tools.

Responsibilities

•Deliver weekly sessions to the approved syllabus and learning outcomes

•Prepare and maintain teaching materials, exercises and reading lists

•Set, invigilate and mark coursework and examinations

•Submit grades and feedback by published deadlines

•Offer consultation time to students

•Take part in course briefings and quality reviews

Requirements

•Master degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or a closely related field. Doctorate preferred

•Demonstrated teaching experience at higher education level, or substantial professional experience in the subject

•Fluent English, spoken and written

•Registered as self employed in Germany, or able to issue invoices for services rendered

•Right to work in Germany

Desirable : publications or applied research in the subject area, industry practice, experience teaching international cohorts, familiarity with ECTS and European quality assurance.
