# Machine Learning Engineer

## About the Role

Veneficus is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer / Data Scientist to work on complex data challenges within the financial sector. The role combines data engineering, machine learning, advanced analytics, and business impact, with opportunities to contribute to projects involving banking, insurance, and pensions.

You will build scalable, reliable, and production-ready data and machine learning solutions in modern cloud environments. Projects may include fraud detection, risk and compliance, customer analytics, pricing and underwriting, pension optimization, and data platform development. You will also contribute to architecture, innovation, engineering best practices, and coaching other data professionals.

## Key Responsibilities

* Design and build scalable batch and streaming data pipelines.

* Work with modern data technologies such as Databricks, Spark, Airflow, and Delta Lake.

* Integrate data from APIs, databases, and event streams.

* Develop and implement predictive machine learning models.

* Operationalize machine learning models using MLOps, CI/CD, and monitoring.

* Work with large datasets in production environments.

* Contribute to data platform architecture and governance.

* Improve data quality, data lineage, and solution reliability.

* Introduce new techniques and engineering best practices.

* Develop real-time fraud detection models using streaming data.

* Build data platforms supporting credit risk and regulatory requirements such as IFRS9 and Basel.

* Develop customer analytics models for behavior, churn, and lifetime value.

* Support data-driven pricing and underwriting decisions.

* Model scenarios and risks for long-term pension portfolios.

* Guide and coach data professionals within teams.

* Promote engineering best practices including Git, testing, and CI/CD.

* Act as a technical sparring partner for stakeholders and management.

## Required Qualifications

* Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer.

* Strong Python and SQL skills.

* Experience developing data pipelines.

* Experience with Azure or another major cloud platform such as AWS or GCP.

* Experience with Databricks.

* Experience with Kubernetes and Docker.

* Knowledge of machine learning, statistics, and modeling.

* Experience with Git, CI/CD, APIs, and production environments.

* WO-level education, such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Econometrics, Computer Science, or a related field.

* Fluent Dutch at C1/C2 level.

* Analytical, entrepreneurial, and impact-oriented mindset.

## Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working in the financial sector, including banking, insurance, or pensions.

* Interest in financial services and financial-sector data challenges.

* Experience with advanced analytics and data platform architecture.

* Experience with batch and streaming data processing.

* Experience with MLOps, monitoring, and production machine learning.

* Experience coaching data professionals or leading technical initiatives.
