Electrical Foreman

Duties & Responsibilities

The LV Switchgear Workshop Foreman will be responsible for the complete day-to-day supervision and coordination of the workshop floor, ensuring LV panels are assembled, wired, tested, and completed according to approved drawings, project requirements, company standards, and agreed production schedules.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for the daily operation, discipline, productivity, and coordination of the LV switchgear workshop floor.
• Lead, supervise, and allocate work to electricians, panel assemblers, busbar technicians, helpers, and other workshop personnel.
• Plan daily and weekly production activities based on project priorities, delivery schedules, approved drawings, and material availability.
• Ensure proper assembly and manufacturing of LV switchgear panels including MDBs, SMDBs, MCCs, ATS panels, capacitor banks, distribution boards, control panels, and related assemblies.
• Read and understand approved electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, busbar drawings, and project specifications.
• Possess strong practical knowledge of copper busbar fabrication, including:
• Busbar sizing and identification.
• Cutting, punching, bending, drilling, and preparation.
• Main and distribution busbar arrangements.
• Neutral and earth busbars.
• Proper phase spacing and clearances.
• Busbar supports and insulators.
• Joint preparation and tightening.
• Sleeving, heat shrinking, colour identification, and finishing.
• Correct installation of busbar links and connections to breakers and other components.
• Check busbar workmanship and ensure correct alignment, support, clearances, jointing, and mechanical strength before panel completion.
• Ensure all panel assembly and wiring activities are carried out according to approved drawings and technical requirements.
• Guide technicians in the correct installation of ACBs, MCCBs, MCBs, contactors, relays, meters, CTs, VFDs, soft starters, capacitors, control components, and other switchgear equipment.
• Ensure proper routing, dressing, ferruling, termination, numbering, and identification of power and control wiring.
• Verify that correct components and materials are being used according to the approved BOM, drawings, and project requirements.
• Identify drawing discrepancies, material shortages, production difficulties, or technical issues and immediately coordinate with the Production Engineer, Design Engineer, Project Engineer, or management for resolution.
• Carry out stage-wise inspection of panels during fabrication, assembly, busbar installation, wiring, and final finishing to minimize rework.
• Coordinate closely with the QC team for internal inspection, testing, punch-list clearance, and preparation of panels for consultant/client inspection.
• Ensure panels are properly cleaned, labelled, dressed, finished, and ready for testing and dispatch.
• Monitor workshop productivity and ensure projects are completed within the required production and delivery schedules.
• Control unnecessary material wastage and ensure proper handling of copper busbars, wires, hardware, components, and workshop consumables.
• Maintain proper utilization and care of workshop machinery, busbar machines, punching tools, bending machines, drilling machines, crimping tools, torque tools, and other production equipment.
• Ensure proper torque tightening of electrical and mechanical connections using suitable tools and according to manufacturer/project requirements.
• Train, guide, and develop technicians and helpers to improve workmanship, productivity, and technical competency.
• Maintain discipline among workshop staff, monitor attendance and performance, and report manpower or performance-related issues to management.
• Coordinate manpower between different projects depending on production priority and workload.
• Ensure that technicians follow approved working procedures and do not make unauthorized modifications to panels or drawings.
• Ensure proper segregation, identification, and storage of project materials and completed assemblies on the workshop floor.
• Coordinate with stores and procurement teams regarding material shortages, incorrect components, or urgent production requirements.
• Support troubleshooting and rectification of electrical, mechanical, wiring, and assembly-related issues during production and testing.
• Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
• Conduct daily toolbox discussions or work briefings where required and ensure the team understands production priorities and technical requirements.
• Maintain proper housekeeping and implementation of good workshop practices throughout the production area.
• Provide daily production progress updates to the Production Manager / Operations Manager / Management.
• Take ownership of workshop activities from the start of production until the panels are completed and handed over for testing, inspection, packing, and dispatch.

Preferred Technical Competencies

The candidate should have:

• Strong practical experience in LV switchgear panel manufacturing.
• Excellent hands-on knowledge of copper busbar fabrication and installation.
• Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical switchgear drawings.
• Good knowledge of MDB, SMDB, MCC, ATS, capacitor bank and DB construction.
• Good understanding of ACBs, MCCBs, MCBs, contactors, relays, meters, CTs and control components.
• Strong knowledge of panel wiring, termination, ferruling and cable dressing.
• Ability to identify and resolve workshop production problems independently.
• Strong leadership and manpower-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and production priorities simultaneously.
• Good understanding of workshop safety and quality requirements.
• Experience working in an LV switchgear manufacturing company in the UAE will be an advantage.

Main Expectation of the Role

The Foreman should be capable of independently taking control of the workshop floor, organizing the manpower, maintaining production quality, solving day-to-day technical issues, and ensuring that panels are completed correctly and on schedule with minimum supervision from management.

Pay: AED1,193.28 - AED7,246.67 per month
