Job description
Simulation Engineer
Contributing to the process of innovation and development of new products, technologies,
assembly processes, and improving / innovating product by developing theoretical and computational 3D models for the hearing aid and pro-audio industry. These models representing virtual prototypes and predicting product performances or failure mechanisms are both generic and customer specific and include technologies and working principles, new and existing, accompanied from concept to production after the request. Delivering modeling assignments and task to the project responsible within the given timeline and work in compliance with the SDM and other relevant procedures in the Sonion Business System to ensure high product quality.

RESULT AREAS
Innovation
- Tracking and contributing to innovative developments (modeling and simulation) in the field.
- Doing research on technologies, materials and competitive developments with a scope
of 0-5 years to achieve better understanding of actual users need.
- Consulting with Senior and Principal Simulation Engineers and internal colleagues to discuss wishes and ideas.
- Based on an idea or desire, simulate multiple concepts and predict impact on product performance.
- Preparing for / contributing to eliminating concepts based on predictions.
- Generating invention forms (IRF) and forwarding these to the Intellectual Property (IP)
department, which in consultation determines if an idea is patent-application and / or
patent worthy.
Participation in projects
- Working on assignments within multidisciplinary project teams with variable lead times run by a Project Manager and / or with supervision from a Principal or Senior Simulation Engineer.
Design / modification
- Performing feasibility and / or achievability studies using simulation tools, experiments,
literature etc.
- Exploring the product design boundaries.
- Performing risk analyses.
- Draft the technical specifications of the technology principles, technologies or products
that are to be developed.
- Determining technical design using models, drawings and materials.
- Making proposals for materials, components and parts.
New product development
- Eliminating concepts by using validated model-based predictions and theoretical analyses.
- Ensuring that the (sub-) product design meets the determined technical specifications and target requirements.
- Creating from models the design file with test results for Production and Industrial Engineering.
Advice and support
- Giving advice to internal stakeholders on market demands, requirements and feasibility
studies.
- Participating in global cooperation with colleagues in other Sonion locations with regards
to technical specifications.
- Listening to concerns and advice and support if possible.
- Supporting the Production Engineering and Production.
CHARACTERISTICS
Communication
- The used language is English.
- Communicating with customers.
- Consulting with internal departments such as Development, Development Support
Services, Production, Industrialization, Quality Assurance, Technical Account Management and other relevant departments regarding the operation and appearance of the products. In some cases travel to other Sonion locations, suppliers and customers for meetings.
Powers
- Advising Senior and Principal Simulation Engineer and Head of Modeling and Simulation
on priorities, based on insights and interests.
- Advising on new models for the design of the new product or modification.
- Advising and supporting the project team members.
- Advising on new softwares and hardware for reducing computational time.
- Cost spending according to the Matrix Authorization Policy.
Your Responsibilities
- Responsible for specific modeling and simulation tasks within project delegated by the (Project) Responsible
- Performing modeling and simulation tasks complying with the quality, schedule and cost of the project.
- Performing a qualitative and full feasibility modeling study.
- Conducting risk analysis and advising on new model developments.
- Developing current and new computational approaches/techniques that are applicable in new technologies via predictions.
- Developing current and new computational approaches/techniques that are applicable in new innovative products.
- Validate models against measurements for the designed products and proposed modifications.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to communicate intermediate and final results.
- Compliance with policies and procedures within the framework of SBS (Sonion Business
System)
Your Profile
- 0-4 years of working experience in development engineering depending on education
level.
- At least a bachelor’s degree in physics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering.
- Knowledge of Finite Element Modeling (FEM) theory and Lumped Element Modeling (LEM) theory is a must.
- Experience with one (or more) of the following FEM-based softwares (COMSOL, ANSYS) or SPICE simulators (OrCAD, LTSpice) is a must.
- Flexibility in using new FEM-based softwares or SPICE simulators is a must.
- Familiarity with one (or more) of the following topics: acoustics, finite element methods, electromagnetism, computational mechanics is a must.
- Knowledge of engineering processes/principles.
- Ability to write technical documentation for transfer knowledge purposes is a must.
- Preferably have basic knowledge of MathWorks MATLAB.
- Capable of thinking on a system level as well as on component level.
- Result driven.

- Able to handle some technical uncertainties.
