Job description

Join the Product Engineering team at one of Europe's fastest scaling technology platforms, building the systems that power millions of daily transactions across a rapidly growing user base. The team sits at the center of a modern, cloud native stack, giving engineers full ownership over services that reach production the same week they're written, without the layers of legacy infrastructure that slow down larger, more bureaucratic organizations. Working across backend services, distributed systems and developer tooling, the team is one of the most technically ambitious in the Berlin tech scene, and a Software Engineer here ships code that customers touch directly, not buried behind months of review cycles.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join the Product Engineering team in Berlin as a core contributor on a small, high output squad. This is a builder's seat on one of the company's flagship product lines, which means direct ownership over services from design through deployment, real input into technical architecture, and the autonomy that only a flat, engineering led organization can offer. You will write production code day to day, participate in on call rotations, and act as the connective tissue between product, design and infrastructure from spec through to launch. You will also build your own standing within the engineering org, since technical decisions here are long lived and an engineer who earns trust early becomes the team's first call as they progress toward Senior and Staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build backend services and APIs across the product platform, from initial spec through deployment and monitoring.
  • Own end to end delivery for features, coordinating with product managers, designers and other engineers to keep releases on schedule and on scope.
  • Serve as a primary technical contact on your squad's services, managing the flow of design docs, code review and incident response.
  • Write clean, well tested, maintainable code to a high engineering standard, and take ownership of the reliability underpinning every service you ship.
  • Support senior engineers on architecture decisions and technical planning, including system design reviews and scalability assessments.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, setting the code quality and testing standard for your squad.
  • Maintain strong technical fluency across the stack, including backend languages, cloud infrastructure and CI/CD tooling relevant to the team.
  • Participate in on call rotations and manage incident response, including root cause analysis and postmortems for live systems.

What We're Looking For

  • Typically 3 to 6 years in software engineering, with meaningful production experience in backend systems, distributed systems or a closely related area.
  • Demonstrable ownership of feature delivery, including live experience shipping services and supporting them in production under real load.
  • Strong technical grounding in one or more backend languages (Go, Java, Python or similar), with the systems design skills to hold your own with senior engineers in architecture discussions.
  • Existing familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP or Azure), or the aptitude and curiosity to build that depth quickly.
  • Comfort operating across complex, fast moving systems with multiple services and dependencies running in parallel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the clarity to document decisions and communicate directly with product and design.
  • Degree educated in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Right to work in the EU, or eligibility to be sponsored. German language skills are not required; the working language is English.

Why Join?

  • Modern, cloud native platform, so you are building on infrastructure without the legacy debt that slows down larger, more established organizations.
  • Daily exposure to senior engineers and live production systems, with a defined path toward Senior and Staff on one of the company's most active product lines.
  • A market with structural tailwinds, meaning a deep and growing roadmap of platform and product work across the business.
  • Strong engineering culture, tooling and autonomy behind every release, giving you the platform to build a career defining technical specialism.
  • Berlin's tech ecosystem and cost of living relative to other major European hubs, giving you real quality of life alongside a demanding, high growth role.
