Role Description

A Farm Manager is responsible for managing daily farm operations, including crop production, livestock, staff, equipment, supplies, and farm resources. The role ensures agricultural activities are carried out efficiently, safely, and according to production and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily farm operations and agricultural activities.
  • Plan and supervise planting, cultivation, harvesting, and storage.
  • Manage livestock feeding, breeding, health, and general care where applicable.
  • Supervise farm workers, assign tasks, and monitor performance.
  • Manage farm machinery, equipment, irrigation systems, and facilities.
  • Monitor soil conditions, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and crop health.
  • Purchase and manage seeds, fertilizers, feed, equipment, and other supplies.
  • Monitor production, yields, inventory, costs, and resource usage.
  • Ensure proper hygiene, animal welfare, biosecurity, and safety practices.
  • Maintain farm records, production reports, inventory, and operational documentation.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, veterinarians, agronomists, contractors, and buyers.
  • Ensure compliance with agricultural, health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Identify and resolve crop, livestock, equipment, and workforce issues.
  • Monitor weather and operational risks affecting production.
  • Improve productivity, quality, cost efficiency, sustainability, and farm performance .

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Animal Science, Horticulture , or a related field.
  • Previous experience in farm management, agricultural operations, crop production, or livestock management.
  • Good knowledge of farming practices, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and crop management.
  • Livestock-management experience is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership, planning, workforce-management, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of farm machinery, equipment maintenance, and safety procedures.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Understanding of agricultural health, safety, environmental, and biosecurity practices.
  • Ability to manage budgets, inventory, supplies, and operational costs.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors, flexible hours, weekends, and during peak seasons.
  • Professional, responsible, practical, organized, and results-oriented.
