Job description
Job description mobile.de is Germany’s largest vehicle marketplace, with more than 1.6 million listed cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, and e-bikes (annual average 2025). Both private customers and registered vehicle dealers use the platform and benefit from more than 140 million visits per month*. As a “one-stop shop,” mobile.de’s offering includes not only buying and selling, but also financing and leasing solutions. Founded in 1996, the company is a subsidiary of Adevinta, a global leader in online classified portals.
Based in Berlin-Charlottenburg, we offer a dynamic environment where growth, learning, and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do. If you are driven by an eagerness to disrupt, have a passion for collaboration, and are excited about shaping the future of mobility, we would love to hear from you.
Your Role As a ( Junior) Data Engineer you will work alongside experienced engineers to design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure that powers mobile.de. You will contribute to the full data engineering lifecycle, from ingestion and transformation to modelling and monitoring, while developing your skills in a collaborative, supportive environment.
Job requirements
- Degree in data engineering, data science, (business) computer science, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
- Foundational hands-on experience with big data technologies in cloud environments (e.g., Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services).
- Familiarity with data integration pipelines and common data technologies such as dbt, Airbyte, Airflow, Kafka, Spark, or BigQuery.
- Solid understanding of relational databases and modern data warehouses; ability to explore and analyse data using SQL.
- Working knowledge of containerisation tools (e.g., Docker) and a foundational understanding of CI/CD practices.
- Familiarity with data modelling concepts (e.g., Star Schema or Data Vault) is a plus.
- Experience with Python, Scala, or Java is a plus.
- Interest in using AI tools and LLM-assisted workflows to improve productivity and data solutions.
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Experience working in GCP environments.
- Hands-on exposure to dbt and Airflow.
- A curious, problem-solving mindset with a willingness to experiment and learn.
- Strong communication skills — you can explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues.
Job responsibilities
- Design, implement, schedule, and monitor ETL pipelines for the data lake, following software engineering best practices.
- Build and maintain well-tested, well-documented data models using dbt to support analysts and business stakeholders.
- Contribute to data ingestion workflows, including integrating data from external sources using tools such as Airbyte or Kafka.
- Help ensure data quality by identifying issues, coordinating resolution, and supporting preventive improvements.
- Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts across mobile.de, serving as a point of contact for questions about datasets within your assigned domains.
- Support the evaluation and adoption of new tools and approaches — including AI-assisted workflows — where appropriate.
