Job description
What to Expect The Tesla Indirect Procurement team is looking to hire a Supply Chain Manager to support the execution of the Packaging strategy for EMEA, including Gigafactory Berlin and Tesla EU service locations. You will work closely with the Packaging Procurement team and receive regular input from Direct Procurement, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders on upcoming needs. The ideal candidate brings solid knowledge of packaging markets and suppliers, is comfortable supporting negotiations and contract processes for this commodity, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This is a hands-on role focused on operational excellence, data accuracy, cost transparency, and sustainable packaging solutions.
What You'll Do* Assist in end-to-end sourcing for Returnable and Expandable packaging for the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin and the EU service locations, including issuing RFx events, gathering supplier information, evaluating quotes, and supporting vendor selection in line with European packaging standards.
- Develop cost breakdowns, track indexing and commodity price movements, and analyze historical and forecasted spend to identify cost-reduction and consolidation opportunities.
- Support preparation of contract documentation such as Price Agreements, NDAs, GTCs and SLAs, and help ensure suppliers are properly set up with spend remaining within contract compliance.
- Review, analyze and clarify supplier quote packages, prepare clear recommendation summaries, and issue purchase orders accurately and on time.
- Work with Tesla ERP and eProcurement tools, support the full Procure-to-Pay process for packaging suppliers, and maintain clean master data.
- Partner with Engineering, Direct Procurement, Production, EHS&S and other Service teams, constructively challenging specifications where value-engineering or standardization opportunities exist.
- Support day-to-day supplier relationships, monitor performance on delivery, quality and responsiveness, escalate issues promptly, and help resolve operational problems.
- Actively support sustainable packaging initiatives focused on reuse, recyclability and reduced virgin material, ensuring suppliers meet Tesla’s basic CSR and environmental requirements.
- Collect and analyze spend and performance data, contribute to commodity business planning and savings tracking, and prepare materials for QBRs or leadership reviews.
- Suggest and help implement process improvements that reduce administrative burden and increase speed and accuracy for the wider Packaging team.
What You'll Bring* Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Packaging Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in a procurement, supply chain or commodity/analyst role, ideally with strong packaging, industrial materials and automotive exposure.
- Working knowledge of packaging as a category (not limited to Returnable or Expandable types), including manufacturing processes and manufacturing technology, plus familiarity with European packaging standards.
- Solid analytical skills with the ability to build cost breakdowns, track commodity indices and turn data into clear recommendations.
- Hands-on experience with ERP and eProcurement tools and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
- Comfort challenging engineers and internal customers diplomatically while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-speed environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English; German language skills are a plus.
- Genuine interest in sustainability and cost-efficient packaging solutions.
- Proactive, data-driven mindset with a get-it-done attitude.
- Candidates are expected to uphold and actively promote sustainability principles in their daily work, operating in line with Tesla Global Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) Policy and EMAS requirements, fostering a culture of continuous environmental improvement.
