Job description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define HMI concepts, logics, and interaction flows, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with operator mental models.
  • Take part of the design & development the Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) of the cockpit displays, Flight Warning System and flight awareness system
  • Apply Human Factors Engineering principles to deliver user-centred HMI designs that reduce workload and prevent human error.
  • Collaborate closely with BVLOS pilots, operators and other engineers to gather requirements, validate usability, and optimize workflows for real-world mission needs.
  • Work on System Description Document (SDD) and Interface control document (ICD)
  • Support producing flight manuals, operator manuals, and supporting documentation to ensure safe and effective system use.
  • Work with regulatory authorities, such as GCAA to generate necessary evidence and documentation for certification and airworthiness compliance.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including software development, validation, verification teams, and subcontractors, to integrate HMI designs into the overall system architecture.
  • Support system-level validation and verification activities, including human-in-the-loop testing and performance assessments.
  • Design high-clarity displays for geospatial, telemetry, and system health information that enable rapid, accurate comprehension of the UAS state.
  • Develop safety-driven visual hierarchies for alerts and warnings that communicate urgency effectively without inducing stress or alarm fatigue.
  • Define associated Verification and Validation means
  • Write test procedures and perform them on the appropriate means (simulator and test benches)
  • Support flight tests and Analyze the test data to verify system performance and functionality

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in HMI/GUI design for safety-critical systems in aviation.
  • Good understanding of AMC 27.1302 or MIL-STD-1472
  • Strong understanding of safety-critical system design and relevant certification processes (e.g., ARP4761).
  • Experience in applying Human Factors and ergonomics principles to the design of Cockpit or Ground Control Station.
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., Polarian or DOORS).
  • Familiarity with aircraft systems
  • Experience/Familiarity with System Safety Assessments, Failure Hazard Analysis, and Certification/Test plans.
  • Very good knowledge of the English language
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
