Job description

At Luo, we build machines that automate quality inspections of medicine. In many pharmaceutical environments, people still spend hours checking products by hand for particles, cosmetic defects and packaging issues. It's tedious, and humans make mistakes. We develop machines that do this job more accurately, faster and more consistently.

Every inspection depends on a machine that runs correctly: containers get picked up, spun, lit and photographed, over and over, thousands of times a day. If the handling is off by a fraction of a millimeter, or a motor stutters, the detection model never gets a fair shot at doing its job.

The Role

As mechatronics engineer at Luo, you are at the heart of our system: detection software makes the final call on medicine quality, but that is impossible without proper handling, stable running systems and reliable electronics in challenging pharmaceutical environments.

To expand our team, we are looking for someone with broad experience in this field, from rapid prototyping to full-fledged machines, and from fitting tolerances to electrical pitfalls. In this role, you will see all of it, and you will be leading mechatronic improvements and new developments.

What you'll work on

  • Mechanical design: Designing (3D and 2D) and improving all hardware aspects of our measurement modules
  • Electrical & control setup: our systems run on IPCs, cobots and low-level motor control chips. You know this well enough to work with it, debug it and collaborate with an external electronics partner. You don’t need to design or program this yourself, but experience with this type of work is a pre.
  • System design: contributing to high-level system designs that align with where the company is heading, and improving the performance of our hardware.
  • Manufacturability: simplifying designs for production, working with manufacturing partners and defining test together with the Supply Chain team to ensure quality of incoming goods.
  • Supplier & partner coordination: keeping R&D partners aligned on quality, planning and technical requirements.

What we're looking for

  • HBO/WO in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or comparable
  • 3-5 years of experience in high-tech or industrial equipment development.
  • Significant industrial experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and outsourcing production.
  • Experience with, or a good understanding of, programming systems that control motors, sensors or other industrial components.
  • Comfortable with rapid prototyping, but just as eager to take something from prototype to finished product.
  • Independent and hands-on, and honest when something isn't going as expected.
  • Dutch/EER working permit

What it's like to work here

  • Fast growth: we're moving from start-up to scale-up, growing fast, with plenty of room to evolve and put your own stamp on the organization.
  • Delft: we're based in a major tech hub, with plenty of other high-tech companies and events nearby.
  • Flat structure: if you see something that should change, you change it. That pragmatic approach is highly appreciated here.
  • A solid team: small, and everyone is there to build impressive, reliable systems.
