JOB DESCRIPTION – MEP FOREMAN

Position: MEP Foreman
Department: MEP / Construction
Location: UAE
Reports To: MEP Engineer / Project Engineer / Construction Manager
Supervises: MEP Technicians, Electricians, Plumbers, HVAC Technicians, Helpers and Subcontractor Workers

1. Job Purpose

The MEP Foreman is responsible for supervising, coordinating and monitoring MEP installation activities at the construction site in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, project schedules, quality standards and UAE HSE requirements.

The position ensures that electrical, plumbing, HVAC, firefighting and other MEP works are executed safely, correctly and within the required project timelines.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Site Supervision

  • Supervise daily MEP activities and manpower at the construction site.
  • Allocate workers according to the daily work requirements and project priorities.
  • Ensure work is carried out according to approved drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with civil, architectural and other trades to avoid clashes and delays.
  • Monitor productivity and ensure planned targets are achieved.
  • Check that workers understand the work requirements before starting activities.

B. MEP Installation

Supervise installation and related works including, where applicable:

Electrical

  • Cable trays, conduits and trunking.
  • Electrical wiring and cable pulling.
  • DBs, panels, switches, sockets and lighting installations.
  • Earthing and related electrical works.

HVAC

  • Ducting and insulation.
  • Chilled water/refrigerant piping.
  • FCU/AHU installation.
  • Grilles, diffusers and other HVAC components.

Plumbing & Drainage

  • Water supply and drainage piping.
  • Soil, waste and vent piping.
  • Pumps, valves and related plumbing equipment.
  • Sanitary fixture installation.

Firefighting

  • Firefighting pipework.
  • Sprinkler piping and installation.
  • Fire hose reel and related installations.
  • Coordination with fire alarm and other specialist systems.

C. Drawings & Technical Coordination

  • Read and understand MEP drawings, shop drawings and layouts.
  • Ensure installations follow approved shop drawings.
  • Identify discrepancies between drawings and actual site conditions.
  • Report technical issues to the MEP Engineer.
  • Coordinate openings, sleeves, supports and builder's work requirements with the civil team.
  • Assist in resolving MEP clashes and site coordination issues.

D. Manpower & Productivity

  • Plan daily manpower requirements with the MEP Engineer.
  • Assign tasks to technicians and workers.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity and work quality.
  • Control unnecessary manpower movement and material wastage.
  • Report manpower shortages or productivity issues immediately.

E. Material Management

  • Check availability of required MEP materials before starting work.
  • Coordinate with stores/material teams for material requirements.
  • Ensure materials are properly stored and protected.
  • Prevent unnecessary wastage, damage or misuse of materials.
  • Verify that materials being installed are approved for the project.

F. Quality Control

  • Ensure MEP installations comply with approved drawings and project specifications.
  • Check levels, alignment, dimensions, supports and installation quality.
  • Coordinate inspections with the QA/QC team and MEP Engineer.
  • Rectify defective or non-conforming work immediately.
  • Assist with testing and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure completed works are ready for inspection and handover.

G. Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensure all workers follow site HSE rules and procedures.
  • Conduct or participate in toolbox talks before work.
  • Ensure workers use appropriate PPE.
  • Monitor safe working practices, particularly for:
  • Working at height
  • Electrical works
  • Hot works
  • Confined spaces
  • Lifting operations
  • Excavation and underground services
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents and near misses.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping at the work area.

H. Coordination with Other Departments

Coordinate closely with:

  • MEP Engineers
  • Civil Engineers
  • Site Engineers
  • QA/QC Department
  • HSE Department
  • Planning Department
  • Procurement/Stores
  • Subcontractors
  • Consultants and inspection teams

3. Daily Responsibilities

The MEP Foreman shall:

  • Attend daily site coordination meetings/toolbox talks as required.
  • Review planned activities for the day.
  • Check manpower availability.
  • Verify availability of drawings and materials.
  • Allocate work to MEP teams.
  • Monitor installation progress.
  • Check workmanship and compliance with drawings.
  • Coordinate with other trades.
  • Record completed quantities/progress.
  • Report delays, technical problems and material shortages.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping.
  • Ensure workers follow HSE requirements.
  • Prepare the work area for inspection.
  • Report daily progress to the MEP Engineer/Site Engineer.

4. Accountability

The MEP Foreman is accountable for:

  • Proper execution of assigned MEP works.
  • Productivity of the MEP workforce under his supervision.
  • Quality of installation work.
  • Compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Proper use and protection of materials.
  • Timely completion of assigned activities.
  • Compliance with site safety requirements.
  • Coordination with other construction trades.
  • Minimizing rework and material wastage.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping at the workplace.

5. Authority

The MEP Foreman is authorized to:

  • Allocate daily tasks to workers under his supervision.
  • Stop work where an immediate unsafe condition exists.
  • Request required materials and tools through the proper procedure.
  • Escalate technical and construction issues to the MEP Engineer.
  • Recommend additional manpower where required.
  • Reject or stop obviously defective work pending technical review.

The Foreman should not make design or engineering changes independently and must obtain approval from the responsible Engineer/Project Management before implementing changes.

6. Required Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Diploma/ITI/Technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing or related MEP field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5–8 years of relevant MEP construction experience, preferably in UAE/GCC.
  • Previous experience as an MEP Foreman or Senior MEP Technician is preferred.
  • Experience in high-rise buildings, commercial buildings, residential projects or large construction projects is advantageous.

7. Technical Skills

The candidate should have:

  • Good knowledge of MEP construction and installation practices.
  • Ability to read MEP/shop drawings.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and firefighting installations.
  • Knowledge of MEP supports, sleeves and coordination requirements.
  • Understanding of testing and commissioning procedures.
  • Ability to measure quantities and monitor productivity.
  • Basic understanding of QA/QC requirements.
  • Good knowledge of construction site safety practices.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple MEP trades.

11. General Requirements

  • Follow all company policies, project procedures and site instructions.
  • Comply with applicable UAE labour and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain professional conduct at all times.
  • Protect company property, tools, equipment and materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company and project information.
  • Perform other reasonable MEP-related duties assigned by management.

Pay: AED5,000.00 - AED6,000.00 per month
