Senior Electrical Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead and coordinate the electrical design activities for MEP/building projects.

The role will be responsible for electrical design calculations, technical reviews, drawings, specifications, authority compliance, value engineering, multidisciplinary coordination and providing technical guidance to engineers, BIM/CAD designers and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and review electrical design activities for LV power, lighting, emergency lighting, earthing, lightning protection, ELV and special systems.
• Perform and review electrical calculations, load schedules, voltage drop, short-circuit, cable sizing and other required design calculations.
• Prepare and review single-line diagrams, layouts, schematics, equipment schedules and other electrical design documents.
• Develop electrical design concepts and technical solutions in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards and authority regulations.
• Review tender documents, employer requirements, specifications and drawings to establish the electrical design scope.
• Coordinate electrical design requirements with Mechanical, Architectural, Structural and other engineering disciplines.
• Review shop drawings, supplier drawings, material submittals and technical submissions for compliance with approved design requirements.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, data sheets, equipment schedules and construction documentation.
• Carry out value engineering studies and recommend technically compliant and cost-effective design solutions.
• Prepare and review engineering computations, quantity take-offs and technical estimates.
• Coordinate with local authorities and utility providers for design approvals, technical requirements and submissions.
• Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable UAE authority requirements and international standards including IEC and BS.
• Perform technical evaluation of tenders, suppliers and specialist subcontractor proposals.
• Identify design conflicts, technical risks and constructability issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Support project and site teams in resolving technical and design-related issues during construction.
• Participate in technical, design coordination and client/consultant meetings.
• Review design changes and ensure proper technical documentation and implementation.
• Support testing, commissioning and final handover requirements from a design perspective.
• Provide technical guidance and supervision to Electrical Engineers, BIM/CAD Designers and Drafters.
• Review work produced by junior team members and ensure accuracy, quality and timely completion of design deliverables.
• Maintain proper design records, calculations, approvals and technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Minimum 8–10 years of relevant electrical design experience in MEP/building projects, preferably within the UAE.
• Strong experience in the design of LV power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, earthing, lightning protection, ELV and related electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical design calculations, equipment selection and technical specifications.
• Good understanding of UAE authority and utility requirements and relevant approval processes.
• Knowledge of applicable international standards such as IEC, BS and other relevant electrical codes.
• Experience in multidisciplinary MEP design coordination.
• Strong experience in reviewing shop drawings, technical submittals and supplier documentation.
• Experience in value engineering and technical tender evaluation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant electrical design software.
• Experience with Revit/BIM is preferred.
• Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead and guide engineers, designers and drafters.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Professional engineering certification/registration is an advantage.
