Position Summary:

In this role you will be the program manager for Illumina’s data platform. This is a highly complex, visible role sitting at the intersection of many teams. You will tackle challenging problems and be responsible for delivering high profile projects across multiple software and bio-informatics teams to ensure goals and commitments are met. You will interface with other technology teams and senior leadership to establish scope, schedule,

and cost as well as communicating status, issues, and risks. Additionally, you will be part of a team integrating scaled agile software development processes and AI driven development in a managed SW quality environment.

 

 

Responsibilities:

•        Lead and own major data platform initiatives that span multiple engineering and product teams

•        Work closely with architects, product managers, and engineers on scope, tradeoffs, and technical decisions and to challenge assumptions, spot integration gaps early, and make credible calls on sequencing and risk.

•        Drive a cross-functional leadership team (a.k.a. Core Team) in successfully delivering program commitments.

•        Create and execute software project plans (scope, schedule, staffing plans, quality, risk management, budget, dependencies, and procurement) and revise them appropriately to meet changing needs and requirements.

•        Work effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives, correct prioritization, and successful project delivery.

•        Lead projects that heavily rely on AI tools and ensure alignment between user needs and development outputs.

•        Lead projects in an agile environment.

•        Track project progress to plan through metrics and make corrections and/or reset expectations as needed.

•        Lead senior management reviews and governance meetings for your program’s pool of resources.

•        Identify, resolve and/or escalate issues as appropriate.

•        Facilitate tradeoff decisions and removes obstacles.

•        Continuously analyze and manage program risks to enable successful project completion.

•        Define and optimize project and program management and overall software development processes, methodologies, and tools to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements:

•        12 or more years proven experience leading and delivering multiple complex software application projects.

•        5 or more years of recent experience working in a regulated environment.

•        Must be able to work independently and communicate across all levels of the organization.

•        Strong understanding of the software development processes and project planning/execution skills that include estimating and scheduling.

•        Polished communication skills and able to communicate with confidence, clarity, and focus.

•        Ability to communicate software concepts and considerations to non-software professionals.

•        Comfortable and experienced presenting to senior leaders.

•        Experience with genomics or multiomics data is a strong plus, and a strong ability to learn the domain is required if you don’t yet have it

•        Demonstrated business judgement navigating complex program challenges to deliver enterprise-scale software successfully according to contract.

•        Excellent leadership skills, you understand how to own the outcome.

•        Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix environment, and ability to influence at all levels.

•        Demonstrated success championing and delivering improvements to the software development and program management processes of a growing organization.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

 

•        Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience

•        Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline

•        Experience delivering programs on cloud hyperscalers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and/or life sciences software 

•        Experience working in an AI-native software development environment 

•        Experience with data pipeline and workflow orchestration systems 

•        Experience with population-scale genomics, biobank programs, or other large scientific data platforms 

•        Background in genomics, bioinformatics, or computational biology 

•        Coding or data analysis experience (Python, SQL, R) sufficient to prototype, validate, and reason about data quality 

•        Partner- or customer-facing delivery experience on a complex technical engagement 

•        Experience working with life sciences quality management systems
