QA/QC Inspector
Position available: Two
Reports to: QA/QC Manager
Job Description: This is a full-time position
A QA/QC Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all work, materials, and processes comply with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and project requirements. The position involves conducting inspections and tests, identifying defects or non-conformities, maintaining quality records, coordinating with project teams, and following up on corrective actions. The main purpose is to ensure quality, prevent defects and rework, and make sure the completed work meets the required standards.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Conduct visual inspections, dimensional checks and verification of workmanship for structural, welding, piping, mechanical and outfitting works during fabrication, assembly, installation and testing
- Review and witness Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities. Review NDT reports and ensure results comply with the specified acceptance criteria
- Ensure construction and installation activities comply with approved drawings, project specifications, applicable international standards, classification society rules and contractual requirements
- Carry out surveillance inspections, internal inspections, hold-point and witness-point inspections at various stages of fabrication, assembly, erection and installation to verify workmanship and quality before formal inspection by the Owner or Classification Society
- Review and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and ensure required inspections, tests, hold points and witness points are properly completed and documented
- Monitor welding activities and maintain relevant welding documentation, including Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and Welder Qualification Records (WQTR/WPQ)
- Identify and document non-conformances, defects and deviations during inspections. Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), observations or punch-list items where required
- Conduct follow-up inspections to verify that identified defects and non-conformances have been satisfactorily rectified prior to closure
- Maintain accurate and traceable quality and inspection records, including inspection reports, checklists, NDT reports, material certificates, test reports, welding records, punch lists, NCRs
- Participate in internal, external, client and certification audits, including preparation of supporting documentation, addressing audit findings and following up on corrective actions
- Support testing and commissioning activities, including witnessing tests, verifying compliance with approved test procedures and acceptance criteria, recording results and monitoring outstanding items to closure
- Coordinate and liaise with Classification Society Surveyors, Owner's Representatives for inspections, testing, surveys and documentation review
- Attend joint inspections with the Classification Society Surveyor and Owner's Representative, record inspection comments and ensure observations or outstanding items are properly followed up and closed
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma/Degree in any Engineering field
- Possession of, or exposure to, recognised NDT certification such as PCN, ISO 9712, ASNT or equivalent would be an added advantage
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements and quality documentation would be beneficial
- Good attention to detail with the ability to identify non-conformities and deviations from drawings, specifications, procedures, and standards
- Willing and able to work in a site/shipyard environment and comply with relevant workplace safety requirements
- Able to work independently with minimum supervision, while also being an effective team player
- Proactive, willing to learn, and able to manage assigned tasks and follow up on outstanding quality matters
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
