ABOUT THE ROLE
As UAS Operations and SORA Specialist, your mission is to own the operational approval process and readiness of our UAS missions across Europe. You are responsible for developing, maintaining, and evolving Operations Manuals and operational documentation that are clear, authority-ready, and compliant with EASA and JARUS requirements. You ensure that operational approvals are achieved across different SAIL categories through coordination with national authorities and EASA.
By working closely with internal engineering teams and external stakeholders, you ensure our UAS operations are safe, compliant, and executable — from first concept to flight campaign execution.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Writing Operations Manuals for EASA Specific Category
- Preparation and submission of flight authorization requests and agreements, including coordination with national and international authorities (e.g., LBA, DFS, EASA)
- Support in the development of Concepts of Operation for UAS products serving multiple use cases and mission types
- Performing SORA for various types of operations with small and large-scale drones
- Planning and defining flight areas within the EU, incl. calculations of Contingency Volume and Ground Risk Buffer and the use of relevant tools (e.g., dipul)
- Defining and validating Operating Procedures for normal, contingency and emergency situations
- Support in conducting Human Factor evaluations (OSO #19/20) and ensuring compliance to Human Factors processes and guidelines
- Support in the creation of Training Manuals (Part D of OM), Maintenance Manuals
- Ensuring regulatory compliance and operational readiness of UAS throughout flight campaigns
- Support in change management processes for operational documents (e.g., Operations Manual, Training Manual, Maintenance Manual)
- Collaborate on national and international level in UAS and aviation associations
WHAT YOU BRING
- Provides clear, understandable, and precise technical and operational documentation in English
- Proven expertise in the field of approval and operation of UAS in specific and open category
- Experience working with application lifecycle and/or requirements management tools, preferably Polarion
- Good knowledge of relevant EASA and JARUS regulations and guidelines
- Ideally networked with authorities, LBA and EASA, or at least experienced in submitting applications for operational approval
- Safety-oriented mindset
- Interest to lean about Human Factors Engineering in the context of UAS development and operations
WHAT WE OFFER
- Full-scale aerospace engineering, not concept slides
- A 60+ engineer team at Ottobrunn
- Real ownership and flat hierarchies: a modern startup culture where your input shapes decisions, not just execution
- Flexible working hours, remote work, and competitive compensation
- Health & wellbeing: EGYM Wellpass membership and subsidized lunch in our canteen
- Office extras: espresso coffee, fresh fruit, and soft drinks, plus regular team and company events, and plenty more once you're on board
