Job description

Engineers in this category are expected to be highly independent, efficient and recognized as the site electrical subject matter expert (SME). They are competent in electrical engineering (including HV/LV distribution), automation and control system interfaces, project management and reliability engineering.

They coach and develop a team of technicians responsible for the safe, reliable and compliant operation and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and processes. Their focus is to minimize downtime and ensure that system and equipment performance comply with cGMP, EHS and Good Engineering Practice (GEP) requirements, operating at optimal condition to meet Engineering and business expectations.

These engineers oversee the work of teams. They are expected to coach and develop others, share accountability and collaborate effectively across functions to drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  1. Project

Support site operations by leading CAPEX and engineering change projects (including CAPA-related modifications) to meet user and business requirements.

Collaborate with cross-functional departments on CAPEX projects or change modification implementation.

Act as technical design authority for electrical scope on CAPEX projects; review and approve electrical designs, calculations and vendor technical submittals.

Raise PIP/STP to secure funding for CAPEX projects.

Work with contractors and external service providers to ensure safety, quality and performance requirements are met for successful project delivery

Execute IQ and OQ phases of new projects and ensure proper handover of completed project documents and drawings.

  1. Compliance

Ensure the site is in compliance with Engineering Standards (pertaining to electrical).

Serve as site SME for electrical Engineering Standards and enforce technical governance; represent the site in Global ES decision forums.

Liaise with Global SMEs to seek clarifications on ES requirements and share responses with site stakeholders for consistency.

Review draft ES comments, ensure timely submission of comments on draft ES, track responses and document final resolutions.

Approve deviations and manage escalation to Global SMEs for unresolved technical conflicts.

Track CAPAs from gap analysis; initiate CAPAs for identified gaps, assign owners and timelines, monitor progress and verify closure with documented evidence.

Ensure documentation for regulatory inspections related to electrical compliance is audit and inspection ready.

  1. Reliability

Ensure the reliability of plant electrical equipment and systems by implementing condition monitoring methods, conducting equipment measurements and addressing repeated failures.

Evaluate and analyze reliability data and results, provide recommendations and follow up with monitoring actions.

Identify in-process equipment and system conditions by collecting, classifying, analyzing and interpreting condition-based monitoring data (e.g., vibration, alignment, oil analysis, ultrasonic gauging).

Assess equipment reliability and acceptability by comparing performance against specifications.

Own lifecycle and obsolescence strategy and spare-parts stocking policy for critical electrical assets.

Oversee condition monitoring strategy, selection of diagnostic tools and KPI reporting for electrical assets.

  1. Electrical

Provide engineering leadership for HV/LV protection coordination, earthing/grounding design and power quality solutions.

Maintain all electrically driven equipment to maximize plant availability and minimize disruption to the production process.

Provide effective solutions and technical leadership for troubleshooting work on all electrically driven equipment.

Ensure All HV/LV switchboards, Transformer, UPS, Battery Chargers, Capacitor bank and Emergency generators are in good condition at all times to minimize disruption to the production process.

Lead the development and continuous improvement of site electrical design standards, protection schemes, earthing/grounding philosophy and power quality strategies.

Lead specification and acceptance testing for major electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, MCCs, drives).

Ensure integration of electrical design with control systems and power/energy monitoring systems.

  1. Quality

Maintain strong working knowledge of relevant Global SOPs, Local SOPs, Good Engineering Practice (GEP) and cGMP requirements pertaining to electrical systems.

Ensure robust documentation and records management to support quality assurance and regulatory compliance.

Ensure audit readiness by complying with applicable standards and regulatory/statutory requirements (GEP, GDP and cGMP).

Lead responses to electrical findings in audits and inspections and own corrective and preventive action closure.

Ensure validation strategy alignment for electrical and control systems (including software lifecycle where applicable).

Maintain traceability between engineering changes and quality documentation, including change control impact assessments.

  1. Management

Own electrical CAPEX budget planning, prioritization of capital projects and ROI justification.

Mentor and develop electrical engineers and technicians; set competency standards and training plans.

Manage vendor selection, performance metrics and technical contracts for electrical scope.

  1. Safety

Maintain a safe and clean working environment by establishing and enforcing procedures, rules and regulations for all activities.

Comply with site and global EHS and Biosafety procedures.

Ensure all work activities are carried out safely and that good housekeeping is maintained.

Ensure external service providers and contractors comply with site safety rules and regulatory requirements.

  1. Continuous Improvement

Contribute to continuous improvement by providing recommendations and leading initiatives to promote sustainability and operational excellence.

Drive energy efficiency, power factor correction and sustainability initiatives related to electrical systems.

Promote standardization of electrical designs and work packages to reduce cost and complexity.

  1. Others

Take ownership of technical decisions and escalate appropriately; act as site electrical SME in cross-functional leadership meetings.

Maintain strong stakeholder relationships across engineering, operations, quality and regulatory functions.

Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

​Skills and Qualifications

We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goal.

Degree in Electrical Engineering; Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Electrical Engineering is preferred.

Minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical engineering or a closely related field, including significant experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.

Extensive electrical engineering expertise with the ability to provide technical authority and approve complex electrical system designs in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Proven track record in CAPEX projects, including planning, execution and optimization of large-scale engineering investments and asset performance initiatives.

Regulatory compliance, validation and audit management experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology or other highly regulated industries.
