Job Description:

General Description:

The Associate Director/Director, Commercial Excellence & Insights, JAPAC, is a regional functional leadership role responsible for driving commercial insights, analytics and sales force effectiveness (SFE) capabilities across the JAPAC region.

The role serves as the regional functional engine for:

integrated business insights,

market research,

competitive intelligence,

commercial analytics,

performance reporting,

KPI governance, and

sales force effectiveness.

The primary objective of the role is to enable data-driven decision-making and improve commercial execution effectiveness through scalable regional frameworks, actionable insights and commercial performance optimization.

The role partners closely with regional and local commercial leadership, sales operations, marketing, medical, market access, finance and global commercial excellence teams to support strategic decision-making, improve field force effectiveness and drive consistent commercial excellence practices across JAPAC markets.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Commercial Insights & Analytics

Lead the development and execution of integrated regional Commercial Insights & Analytics capabilities across JAPAC, serving as the regional functional engine for business insights, analytics and commercial performance optimization. The role is responsible for enabling data-driven decision-making through the synthesis of market intelligence, commercial analytics and strategic performance insights.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Market research

Competitive intelligence

Commercial analytics and performance reporting

Forecasting support, including regional scenario planning and strategic simulations related to market events, launches, competitive dynamics and portfolio decisions

KPI measurement and analytics frameworks

The role translates regional and local business questions into actionable insights that support:

Commercial strategy

Launch readiness

Portfolio optimization

Resource prioritization

Commercial execution improvement

Working closely with local markets, the role consolidates market intelligence, identifies commercial opportunities and risks, generates actionable recommendations and improves business decision-making across the region.

The role also owns the operational delivery and synthesis of:

Regional market research initiatives

Competitive intelligence programs

Commercial performance dashboards

Executive business insights reporting

In addition, the role drives consistency and best practices across markets for:

Insight generation methodologies

KPI definitions

Reporting standards

Analytics frameworks

Commercial data utilization

The role supports recurring business reviews and performance discussions through insight generation and analytical support.

Sales Force Effectiveness

Lead the development and implementation of scalable regional Sales Force Effectiveness (SFE) frameworks and analytics capabilities to improve field force productivity, customer engagement and commercial execution effectiveness across JAPAC.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Segmentation and targeting frameworks

Territory alignment and field force sizing support

Call planning analytics

Customer engagement metrics

Omnichannel effectiveness measurement

Sales force KPI frameworks

Partner with country commercial and sales operations teams to optimize:

Field force deployment

Customer coverage

Sales execution effectiveness

CRM utilization

Commercial productivity

Provide regional analytics and recommendations to support continuous improvement in customer engagement and field force effectiveness.

Benchmark field force performance across markets and identify scalable best practices.

Support implementation and adoption of commercial excellence tools, dashboards and reporting capabilities.

  1. Incentives Governance Support (Secondary Support Role)

Provide analytical support and governance input to regional and local stakeholders to help inform sales incentive governance frameworks across JAPAC.

Responsibilities include:

Commercial analytics and performance insights

Benchmarking and KPI recommendations

Incentive effectiveness observations

Support for alignment between incentives, strategic priorities and desired commercial behaviors

  1. Commercial Training Enablement (Enablement Role)

Support regional commercial capability development by translating insights and SFE priorities into commercial excellence enablement initiatives and best practices across the region.

Areas of contribution include:

Commercial excellence playbooks

KPI education and reporting standards

CRM adoption support

SFE methodology enablement

Sales effectiveness frameworks

Cross-market best practice sharing

The role partners with local markets and training stakeholders to support adoption of global and regional commercial excellence standards, tools and frameworks.

Qualification Required:

Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in:

Business,

Life Sciences,

Pharmacy,

Economics,

Marketing,

Engineering,

Data Analytics,

or a related discipline required

MBA or advanced degree preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

None to start

Computer Skills:   

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

Strong working knowledge of commercial analytics, dashboarding, and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or similar platforms.

Familiarity with CRM and sales force effectiveness platforms, including Veeva CRM, Salesforce, IQVIA solutions or equivalent systems.

Experience using commercial data, pharmaceutical market data, sales performance data and customer engagement data to generate actionable insights.

Ability to interpret complex datasets, guide analytical approaches and translate outputs into clear business recommendations for senior stakeholders.

Understanding of CRM governance, data quality, dashboard standards and KPI reporting frameworks preferred.

Experience with forecasting, scenario planning, performance reporting, or commercial planning tools preferred.

Other Qualifications:    

Strong strategic thinking and business acumen, with the ability to translate insights into practical commercial recommendations.

Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in complex, matrixed and multicultural regional organizations.

Excellent communication and executive presentation skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information for senior stakeholders.

Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across commercial, sales operations, marketing, medical, finance, market access and global teams.

Proven ability to balance regional standardization with local market flexibility.

Strong project management, prioritization and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple markets and workstreams.

Collaborative leadership style with the ability to lead through influence without direct authority.

Strong analytical mindset with sound judgment, curiosity and comfort working with ambiguity.

Experience supporting oncology, specialty care or innovative medicines businesses preferred.

Travel: 

Approximately 10–20% across JAPAC markets and global meetings, as business needs require.
