Key Responsibilities Are you passionate about developing cutting-edge products in the field of medium voltage vacuum interrupters?

As an R&D Engineer, you will drive innovation by creating new solutions, conducting advanced simulations, and collaborating with experts across teams.

Lead the development of groundbreaking technologies and ensure their success through rigorous testing.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Contributing to the development of new products and solutions in the field of medium voltage vacuum interrupters
  • Conduct numerical and physical simulations for a variety of intricate problems related to vacuum interrupters and their use in medium voltage breakers and switchgear
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with other ABB units as well as external partners in the framework of R&D projects
  • Development of new processing technologies in collaboration with the responsible manufacturing units
  • Preparation of development tests and type tests in close collaboration with certified test-labs
  • Consulting for internal and external customers on problems related to the application of vacuum interrupters in medium voltage networks

Qualifications For The Role

  • Higher degree in engineering, preferably with a background in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science
  • First experience in an R&D environment preferable
  • Knowledge of the electrical distribution network and its components and an interest to expand it
  • Basic knowledge in the area of current interruption phenomena in medium voltage product range preferable
  • Fluent in English and willingness to learn German
  • A solution-focused approach with hands-on mentality and interest in practical laboratory work
