Job description

Qascom is looking for a Security Assurance Engineer within the Space and Defence domain, to join the Security Engineering team in European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESA ESTEC) located in Noordwijk (NL) .

As Security Assurance Engineer you will be part of the ESACS team, supporting the European Space Agency (ESA) Security Office (ESO).

This role involves conducting security accreditation and certification activities for space missions, performing security risk assessments , and defining security guidelines. As Security Assurance Engineer you will interface with space industries and agencies; as consequence, this role requires excellent communication skills as well as professionals experience in security assurance for space missions.

As part of the Security Engineering team you will:

  • Contribute to systems engineering and security assurance activities for ESA space missions, including the definition and assessment of system security requirements and the integration of security throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Support security risk assessment, risk management, certification and accreditation activities, ensuring compliance with applicable security standards and frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain security guidelines, monitor emerging cybersecurity regulations and standards, and prepare threat intelligence and security assessment reports.
  • Support project and documentation reviews, providing security expertise during mission design, development and operational phases.
  • Conduct technical studies and research in the fields of space systems, satellite navigation, security and telecommunications.
  • Document, present and discuss results with ESA, EUSPA and industry stakeholders, while supporting additional activities as required by project and business needs.

Required qualification and professional experiences:

  • Degree in Security or Cybersecurity; Alternatively, a degree in one of the following fields: Software Engineering, Telecommunications, Mathematics, Computer Science / Information Technology, or Aerospace Engineering;
  • Experience at system level on complex systems, with a good understanding of systems engineering processes and system lifecycle activities;
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience, including a minimum of 3 years in security-related roles within the space sector.
  • Eligibility for Security Clearance.

Desired knowledge and skills are:

  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, methodologies, technologies and frameworks and their application to complex systems.
  • Knowledge of security risk assessment, risk management, certification and accreditation processes.
  • Ability to integrate security considerations throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced English proficiency (written and spoken).
