Job description

Job Summary:

The Cost Control Engineer – MEP is responsible for planning, monitoring, analyzing, and controlling all MEP-related project costs to ensure projects are delivered within the approved budget. The role supports project management by providing accurate cost forecasts, identifying cost variances, evaluating financial risks, and recommending corrective actions throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain detailed MEP project cost plans, budgets, and cost control reports.
  • Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets and identify cost variances.
  • Track material, subcontractor, labor, plant, and equipment costs for all MEP works.
  • Coordinate with Procurement, Planning, Quantity Surveying, Finance, and Project teams to ensure accurate cost tracking.
  • Review purchase orders, subcontract agreements, invoices, and payment applications for cost compliance.
  • Monitor committed costs, actual costs, and forecasted project costs.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly cost reports highlighting project financial performance.
  • Analyze budget deviations and recommend corrective actions to improve cost efficiency.
  • Assist in preparing project cash flow forecasts and cost-to-complete reports.
  • Monitor material wastage and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
  • Support the evaluation of subcontractor quotations and variations.
  • Review variation orders, change requests, and their financial impact on project budgets.
  • Participate in project progress meetings and provide cost performance updates.
  • Assist in preparing project final accounts and project close-out documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company financial procedures and project cost control standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of all MEP cost-related documentation and supporting data.
  • Strong knowledge of MEP systems and construction methodologies.
  • Excellent understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and cost reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and project planning software.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
  • Ability to identify cost risks and recommend practical solutions.
  • Good negotiation and commercial awareness.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Experience & Qualification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of UAE experience as a Cost Control Engineer – MEP in a building contracting company.
  • Additional certification in Cost Engineering, Project Controls, or Quantity Surveying is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar), AutoCAD, and Primavera P6 is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, project budgeting, and cost reporting.
  • Proven experience in high-rise residential, commercial, mixed-use, or hospitality building projects.
  • Experience in monitoring MEP project costs from procurement through project completion.
