Role Description

We are seeking a hands-on AI Engineer to own the Copilot Studio platform and the agents that run on it. Working within the Microsoft ecosystem – Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI and the Power Platform – you will design the patterns, guardrails and reusable building blocks that let the business create AI agents safely and at scale.

Reporting to the Cloud Solution Architect, you will build and run our commodity (horizontal) agents, set the standards and guardrails that govern agent development, and enable our power users to build their own functional agents with confidence. You will also help establish and operate an AI Centre of Excellence covering governance, environments and standards. This is a build-and-enable role at the heart of our AI transformation.

Principle Accountabilities:

Copilot Studio platform & agent patterns

• Own the Copilot Studio platform: design the reusable patterns, templates, topics and guardrails that make agent development safe, consistent and repeatable across the business.
• Build and operate the commodity (horizontal) agents that serve the whole organisation, and set the quality, testing and release standards that all agents follow.

Enablement & Centre of Excellence

• Enable business-led, self-service agent development through clear guidance, training and guardrails, so power users can build functional agents within safe boundaries.
• Establish and operate an AI Centre of Excellence covering governance, environments, standards and best practice, championing continuous improvement.

Integration, licensing & cost

• Integrate Copilot and agents with enterprise data and workflows in partnership with the Cloud and Data teams, using the connectors and platform the Azure Cloud Engineer provides.
• Manage the licensing and consumption model for Microsoft AI services (licensed vs pay-as-you-go), optimising cost and providing clear, forward-looking consumption estimates.

Assurance & communication

• Ensure AI solutions meet security, compliance, accuracy and performance standards, working with the Security Engineer on data-protection and guardrail controls.
• Provide clear documentation and stakeholder briefings that translate AI capability into business outcomes.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

Essential

• Proven hands-on experience building AI solutions in the Microsoft stack – Copilot Studio, Azure AI / Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services and the Power Platform.
• Demonstrable experience designing agents or conversational/automation solutions, including patterns, guardrails and reusable components.
• Ability to enable non-technical business users to build self-service solutions within governed boundaries.
• Strong understanding of Microsoft AI licensing and consumption models and how to optimise cost.
• Familiarity with governance frameworks and Centre of Excellence models for AI adoption.
• Experience integrating with modern data platforms and integration patterns.
• A clear communicator who can brief stakeholders and write concise documentation.

Desirable

• Microsoft certifications such as Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102) or equivalent.
• Experience with prompt and grounding design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agent evaluation/accuracy testing.
• Experience with MLOps and automation in the Microsoft ecosystem.
• A background in Computer Science, Data Science or a related field, or equivalent transferable experience.
