Job description

Head of Platform & Engineering Fiona's Renal Care AG · Zurich · On-site / Hybrid · Full-time · Reports to the Co-Founder & CEO

Applications are reviewed only via email. LinkedIn Easy Apply submissions will not be considered.

Fiona's Renal Care is building a veterinary-led platform for the management of chronic kidney disease in dogs and cats. We bring together specialist kidney care, diagnostics, mobile and home-based treatment, renal nutrition, e-commerce and longitudinal clinical data, with veterinarian-supervised AI-assisted monitoring to come.

We are looking for the senior engineer who will build and own that entire technical foundation, from zero to launch.

The role

This is the first senior platform and engineering hire at Fiona's. There is no legacy system to inherit; the technical foundation of the company is yours to define and build. You will own the full platform, from the owner experience and the veterinary and nursing backend to mobile-care and field workflows, lab-result ingestion, reporting, e-commerce and subscriptions, internal tooling, data infrastructure, security and cloud architecture.

It is a player-coach position. You will be hands-on through the early build and grow a team as the platform matures. You will work alongside dedicated leaders for clinical data, predictive modelling and medical governance, and your job is to build the technical system they all rely on.

What you will own

Platform architecture and roadmap, from the owner portal and clinician backend through to lab ingestion, reporting and e-commerce. The backend, APIs, databases and data flows that support patients, owners, clinicians and internal teams, including lab results, treatment workflows, nutrition orders, longitudinal records and reviewed reports.

The longitudinal clinical data layer: patient timelines, structured records, report generation, data provenance, audit trails and a clean separation between raw, reviewed and clinician-approved data. Integrations for lab feeds, documents and field data, including OCR where needed, always behind verification before anything is used clinically.

The commercial infrastructure for ordering, payments, subscriptions and customer accounts. The systems behind our mobile teams and Blood & Monitoring Hubs, covering scheduling, sample tracking, documentation, escalation and dashboards. Security and access control from day one, with role-based access, audit logs, encryption and GDPR- and HIPAA-conscious foundations.

You will also build the infrastructure that lets the modelling team develop, validate, deploy and version their work safely, though not the models themselves, and you will decide what we build in-house versus outsource while keeping the core architecture and IP with us.

This is not an AI research, clinical data science, medical decision-making or IT support role. Clinical standards sit with medical leadership and the models sit with the modelling function. Your mandate is to make the platform real, reliable, secure and scalable.

What we are looking for

Eight or more years in software, backend, data or platform engineering, with production systems you have built and run end to end. Experience owning a platform or major technical architecture and leading engineers or external vendors. Strong backend, API, cloud and infrastructure skills across databases, data pipelines and event-driven or distributed systems, with a solid grasp of observability, reliability, CI/CD and production operations. Comfort making build-versus-buy decisions and building before everything is defined, and the communication skills to work across product, clinical, data, legal and operations teams.

A strong plus if you bring healthcare, medtech, fintech or other regulated-data experience, work with clinical or sensitive personal data, provenance-tracked systems and audit logs, MLOps, or
