1. Organisational context

Organisational setting:

The post of Specialist – Storage Infrastructure Engineer is located in the Infrastructure Services Team (C1-36), ICT Operations Unit (C1-3), ICT Department, Capabilities Directorate.

The C1 ICT Department has the responsibility for devising, delivering and operating critical technology capabilities and solutions supporting the core mission and support processes of Europol. Over 150 internal staff members and a significant number of domain-specific consultants are responsible for devising, developing, delivering and operating information management and communication technology capabilities that ensure enhanced criminal information analysis and exchange among Europol, Member States and third parties.

The ICT Operations Unit is responsible for the operations and management of the Europol ICT Infrastructure. This includes Workplace services, Service Management, Network Services, Platform Services, Application Services, Infrastructure Services and ICT Security.

Purpose of the post:

The Specialist – Storage Infrastructure Engineer is in charge of engineering and operating ICT infrastructure storage solutions.

This role also encompasses provisioning infrastructure and operating systems, with a primary focus on ensuring the availability, reliability, and performance of these systems while meeting business requirements by matching architecture blueprints.

Furthermore, the incumbent is responsible for coordinating the implementation and review of infrastructure storage designs. The role requires working in Infrastructure Engineering and performing daily ICT operational tasks.

Reporting lines:

The incumbent reports to the Senior Specialist - Head of Team – Infrastructure Services / Head of Unit – ICT Operations.

Job environment:

This post will require participation in a shift system including weekends and nights as well as on-call duty.

2. Functions and duties

The successful candidate will have to carry out the following main duties:

  • Design and implement enterprise-grade products and services in accordance with architecture guidelines and standards, translating high-level solution architectures into concrete storage designs, procedures and specifications;
  • Act as Technical Product Manager of selected Commercial Of The Shelf (COTS) solutions, taking responsibility for the ICT product roadmap throughout its life cycle;
  • Participate in solution engineering and system administration activities, in cooperation with software and infrastructure engineering and ICT operations teams;
  • Create and maintain the security baseline for the storage products and services within the portfolio;
  • Specify and review technical storage standards including relevant security controls to ensure alignment with the overall Europol Architecture guidelines;
  • Evaluation of non-standard ICT storage requests by scoping and developing, to deliver a solution meeting the requirements;
  • Provide the technical support, perform technical analysis, investigation, troubleshooting and resolution of incidents or problems affecting the storage and contribute to ICT wide technical knowledge management;
  • Drive the evaluation and selection of the technical products that are required to implement ICT storage solutions;
  • Perform any other task as assigned by the line management.

3. Requirements - Eligibility criteria

  • Be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union and enjoy full rights as a citizen;

  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws on military service;

    • Produce appropriate character references
