Job description
Key Responsibilities
Automation Strategy & Hands-on Build: Define and execute the automation roadmap for the platform, and build it yourself. You'll be writing test code daily, not just reviewing approaches or producing strategy decks.
Backend & API Test Coverage First: Establish robust automated coverage for backend services and API integrations, with an emphasis on the payment flows where reliability matters most. Cover the contracts, edge cases, and failure modes that manual testing struggles to catch consistently.
Framework & Tooling Foundations: Stand up the test frameworks, tooling, and CI integration the team will rely on. Expected toolchain includes Playwright, Postman, JMeter or their equivalents, with test execution wired into GitLab pipelines so coverage runs on every change.
End to End & UI Coverage: Once backend foundations are in place, extend automation into end to end and UI flows, sequencing the work so each layer earns its place by reducing real release risk.
Automation Transition: Partner with the existing UAT team to convert high value test cases into automated suites, building shared context as you go while ensuring the manual backlog is kept up with.
Release Confidence & Developer Enablement: Make automated QA something the dev team trusts and uses, not something they work around. Reduce the cost of validating changes so engineers can ship with confidence at the pace AI assisted development now allows.
AI-Assisted Engineering: Use AI tools actively in your day to day work, from generating test cases and scaffolding suites to debugging flaky tests and analysing failure patterns. Push the squad to adopt and refine these workflows as a core part of how we ship.
Quality Culture & Mentorship: Work alongside a team, sharing context, raising the bar, and helping the broader team treat quality as a shared responsibility rather than a gate.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain clear documentation for test frameworks, coverage maps, and known gaps, contributing to a shared knowledge base the team and adjacent squads can rely on.
