Our “Cell Microtechnologies & Biosystems” group, based in Allschwil, Switzerland is looking for a passionate Senior R&D Engineer combining biology and technology, with a strong translational mindset.

Your mission

As a Senior R&D Engineer in Cell Microtechnologies and Biosystems, you execute and manage multidisciplinary industrial and research projects, propose game changing ideas, contribute to business development and technology dissemination with a focus on automated cell microsystems to be used as tools for applications in drug testing and regenerative medicine.

The activities are fully aligned with the Tools for Life Sciences activities at CSEM, contributing to the development of enabling technologies supporting life‑sciences research, personalized health, and translational applications. By combining cell technologies, labware design, microfluidics, data‑driven experimentation, and system integration, the position helps deliver robust tools that bridge fundamental research and industrial deployment for life‑science partners, leveraging strong systems engineering principles to ensure end to end performance, reliability, and scalability.

Your responsibilities

• Manage significant industrial projects or activities in all their aspects (i.e. resources, goals, issues, budget) and contribute to various projects (management of specific work packages, technical execution, offer writing, etc)
• Be involved in multidisciplinary activities
• Contribute to projects acquisition
• Maintain and develop good relationships with our partners and participate in customers meetings
• Proactively propose game changing ideas to enhance operations in the activity, solve complex problems and develop successful new activities or contribute to grow sustainable topics
• Continuously keep aware of the state of the art
• Maintain and develop internal and external professional network
• Provide functional support and guidance to colleagues

Your profile

Know-how

• Superior level of education (MSc) with 8+ years of successful professional experience or PhD level with 4+ years of successful professional experience in Life Science Technologies with a focus on cell technologies (pre-clinical drug testing, regenerative medicine, bioprocessing)
• Bioengineering: cell biology, complex in-vitro models (e.g. organoids), bioassays, microphysiological systems, organ-on-chip, tissue engineering
• Microtechnologies and integrated lab systems: microfluidics, mechanical design, smart labware
• Biocompatible materials, biointerfaces, surface chemistry, cell–material interactions, device functionalization
• System-level engineering: integration of biology, chemistry, and technology into robust solutions
• Translational & business-oriented R&D: project leadership, partner interaction, innovation and technology transfer
• Multidisciplinary collaboration, customer & partner interactions, technology scouting and innovation; ability to integrate across disciplines, translational mindset, impact driver
• Industry background is an asset
