Our “Biosensing Technologies” group, based in Landquart, Switzerland is looking for a Senior R&D Engineer.

Your Mission

The mission of this position is to design, develop, and advance biomolecular and electrochemical sensing technologies for point‑of‑care and continuous monitoring applications. The role strengthens the Biosensing Technologies group’s expertise through the application of biosensing principles, electrochemistry, biomolecular sensor design, and surface chemistry, with a focus on achieving high‑performance and application‑relevant sensing solutions.

The position involves the systematic design and optimization of experiments, ideally using AI‑ and data‑driven approaches, as well as the application of modern data processing methods. Leveraging chemical synthesis as a source of technological advantage can prove highly valuable. Contributing to the transition from proof-of-concept to scalable sensor solutions is expected. Experience in industrial sensor development and production is considered a strong asset, supporting alignment with manufacturing and real‑world deployment requirements.

The activities are fully aligned with the Tools for Life Sciences activities at CSEM, contributing to the development of enabling technologies supporting life‑sciences research, personalized health, and translational applications. By combining advanced biosensing, chemistry, data‑driven experimentation, and system integration, the position helps deliver robust tools that bridge fundamental research and industrial deployment for life‑science partners.

Your responsibilities

• Manage significant industrial projects or activities in all their aspects (i.e. resources, goals, issues, budget) and contribute to various projects (management of specific work packages, technical execution, offer writing, etc.). This role is not a project management position, the focus is on R&D activities instead. Part of the work can be related to project management tasks.
• Be involved in multidisciplinary activities
• Contribute to project acquisition
• Maintain and develop good relationships with our partners and participate in customers meetings
• Proactively propose game changing ideas to enhance operations in the activity, solve complex problems and develop successful new activities or contribute to growing sustainable topics
• Continuously keep aware of the state of the art
• Maintain and develop internal and external professional network
• Provide functional support and guidance to colleagues

Your Profile

Know-how

• Superior level of education (MSc) with 7+ years of successful professional experience or PhD level with 3+ years of successful professional experience.
• Biosensing principles
• Electrochemistry
• Biomolecular sensor design
• (Surface) chemistry
• PoC and continuous monitoring technologies
• Chemical synthesis of advantage
• Design of experiments, ideally AI-driven, of strong advantage
• Modern data processing knowledge of advantage
• Industry background in sensor production is an asset
