Responsibilities

As a Product Policy Manager for GenAI Safety and Emerging Products within Trust & Safety, you will work at the intersection of technology and policy to enable innovation while protecting users.

You will:

  • Shape safety-by-design solutions for AI-powered and other emerging products and features.
  • Research and define product risks, and develop appropriate safety policies, guidelines, and enforcement strategies.
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, User Research, Operations, Legal, Public Policy, and other cross-functional stakeholders to design and launch safe and compliant products.

This role supports fast-moving and often ambiguous product areas, including new product launches and emerging technologies. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing user safety, business priorities, regulatory expectations, and product innovation in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and refine product-specific policies for GenAI and other emerging products and features, ensuring they are clear, defensible, enforceable, and aligned with business strategy, regulatory standards, and user safety requirements.
  • Conduct thorough pre-launch and post-launch risk assessments for new products and features, identify potential harms and abuse vectors (including GenAI‑specific risks), and design effective mitigation strategies in partnership with Safety Product and other cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor and analyze user interactions, policy enforcement trends, abuse patterns, and emerging technologies to inform policy development, enforcement strategies, and product improvements.
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Research, Operations, Legal, Public Policy, and PR to evaluate product proposals, influence design decisions, and support launch-readiness and policy sign-off.
  • Track global regulatory developments, industry trends, and best practices related to online safety, AI governance, and safety-by-design, and proactively evolve policy frameworks.
  • Champion user safety and trust by promoting transparency, ethical decision-making, and responsible product development practices across TikTok and ByteDance’s AI initiatives.
  • Prepare and present policy recommendations, risk analyses, and updates to stakeholders, driving alignment and informed decision-making across multiple levels of the organization.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification(s)

  • 5+ years of experience in the technology industry, with exposure to policy development, program management, trust and safety, compliance, and/or risk assessment.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in artificial intelligence, public policy, politics, law, economics, behavioral sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical reasoning, execution, and project management skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and balance multiple trade-offs.
  • Deep understanding of, and interest in, the key policy and safety issues that impact AI and other emerging technologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex challenges into clear, persuasive language and influence cross-functional partners in a dynamic, fast-paced, and often uncertain environment.
  • Adaptability and sound judgment, with a willingness to evolve your approach based on new information, user feedback, product changes, or market developments.

Preferred Qualification(s)

  • Experience working on emerging technologies, AI-powered products, or other novel product areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop principled, enforceable, and defensible policy recommendations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience translating policy requirements into operational guidance, tooling requirements, or scalable enforcement workflows.
