Job description

Location:  Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Languages Required:  German (C1), English (B2)

Work Mode:  Hybrid (2–3 days onsite / remainder remote)

Employment Type:  Permanent, Full-time

This Isn’t Just a Job. This Is Linux. Unleashed.

We’re hiring on behalf of a mid-sized tech powerhouse headquartered in Frankfurt. They’re not looking for another cog in the machine, they’re searching for a  Linux System Engineer  who lives for the command line, thrives on automation, and refuses to settle for outdated structures.

If you’re tired of rigid hierarchies, soul-sucking meetings, and slow-moving corporate dinosaurs, keep reading.

What You’ll Own

  • Operate and maintain high-availability Linux server environments
  • Configure and administer MySQL clusters and replication setups
  • Deploy and fine-tune open-source stacks (Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, Varnish, etc.)
  • Build automation into everything with  Puppet  and  Ansible
  • Work hands-on with  KVM  and other virtualisation platforms
  • Drive infrastructure discussions and performance tuning
  • Script, automate, evolve, Shell, PHP, Python, Java are all welcome
  • Collaborate across teams: Hosting, Networking, Data Centre Ops

What You Bring

  • Command-line mastery across CentOS, Debian, RHEL
  • Deep Linux system administration skills
  • Advanced MySQL config, clustering and replication experience
  • Familiarity with mail and web services (Postfix, Dovecot, Varnish, Apache)
  • Hands-on automation mindset: Puppet, Ansible, repeat
  • DNS, systems infra, performance, second nature

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Virtualisation chops (KVM, oVirt, RHEV)
  • Container fluency (Docker, modern hosting architectures)
  • Basic programming knowledge (Shell, PHP, Python, Java)
  • A relevant technical or scientific degree

Who You Are

  • A self-starter and natural team player
  • Hungry to learn, eager to contribute
  • Comfortable in startup-style environments
  • Not shackled by “how it’s always been done”
  • Passionate about IT, curious, and collaborative

Why Apply?

  • €2,000+ annual learning budget
  • JobRad bike leasing & Deutschlandticket paid
  • 30 vacation days + 13th salary
  • Modern stack, top-tier equipment, and a flexible, trust-based setup
  • Fit7/11 corporate fitness membership
  • Frequent tech talks, breakfast sessions, team events
  • Flat hierarchies with leadership that codes, not just delegates

Red Flags? This Isn’t for You If:

  • You only work with Windows
  • You want 100% remote, this role is hybrid
  • You’re uncomfortable with MySQL or automation
  • You’re allergic to agile, hands-on environments
