Job Title: Senior NGS Laboratory Technician / NGS Laboratory Supervisor

Work Location: Singapore

Job Purpose & Summary

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Senior NGS Laboratory Technician / NGS Laboratory Supervisor to lead wet-lab operations, independently perform complex molecular testing, and support the Lab Operation Head in daily laboratory operations and administration.

The ideal candidate should have strong technical knowledge of NGS and molecular diagnostics, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to train and mentor laboratory personnel while ensuring compliance with applicable clinical and laboratory standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Testing & Laboratory Operations

• Independently perform end-to-end NGS workflows, including nucleic acid extraction, library preparation and sequencing using Illumina and/or MGI platforms.
• Perform molecular diagnostic testing in accordance with established SOPs and quality requirements.
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of testing to meet required turnaround times.

2. Lab Management & Support

• Assist the Lab Operation Head with daily laboratory operations, inventory management, SOP updates and workflow optimisation.
• Maintain proper records for instrument maintenance, calibration and QC activities.
• Support the management and maintenance of sequencers, liquid handlers and other laboratory equipment.

3. Troubleshooting & Quality Assurance

• Conduct root-cause analysis and troubleshooting for assay anomalies, instrument issues and unsatisfactory QC results.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS).
• Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement.

4. Training & Mentorship

• Provide NGS technical training and laboratory safety onboarding for new and junior laboratory staff.
• Conduct technical competency assessments and provide ongoing coaching and support.
• Promote good laboratory practices and compliance with established procedures.

5. Client & Onsite Support

• Act as a key technical liaison for clients and key account sites when required.
• Coordinate with internal and cross-functional teams to resolve technical and operational matters.
• Maintain flexibility to support urgent operational requirements and overtime when necessary.

Qualifications & Requirements

Professional Qualifications – Must meet at least one of the following:

• Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology; or
• Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology; or
• Equivalent qualification acceptable to the Director-General of Health.

Experience

• Minimum 3–4 years of hands-on experience in NGS and molecular diagnostics, preferably in a clinical laboratory environment.
• Prior experience as a senior technician, team lead or laboratory supervisor is highly preferred.

Key Competencies

• Strong knowledge of NGS workflows, library preparation, NGS chemistry and sequencer operations.
• Hands-on experience with Illumina and/or MGI sequencing platforms.
• Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and independent problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to lead, train and mentor junior laboratory staff.
• Able to work independently and effectively under pressure.
