17.08.2026, Academic staff The Chair of Strategic and International Management at TUM (Prof. Dr. Thomas Hutzschenreuter) is seeking a full-time Doctoral Research Associate (m/f/d), starting at the earliest possible date, with a focus on the research area Strategy & Technology (incl. the impact of AI on corporate strategy). The Chair of Strategic and International Management at the Technical University of Munich, led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Hutzschenreuter, conducts research on corporate strategy, transformation, and firm performance with a strong focus on practical relevance.

Within the research area Strategy & Technology, the team investigates the impact of emerging technologies—particularly artificial intelligence—on corporate strategies, their use in strategic processes, and their role in international competition.

Overall, the chair’s research focuses on three key areas:

  • Strategy & Global Contexts
  • Strategy & Technology
  • Theory of the Firm

The chair collaborates closely with internationally renowned scholars as well as leading industry partners. Research results are regularly presented at international conferences and transferred into business practice. Former doctoral researchers have successfully pursued careers in multinational corporations, leading strategy consultancies, private equity firms, and academia.

To strengthen our team, we are looking to fill a full-time position as a Doctoral Research Associate (m/f/d) at the earliest possible date.

Applicant’s Project Your doctoral research project will be an integral part of the chair’s research agenda and is expected to result in joint publications in internationally recognized journals.

As part of your doctoral studies, you will be enrolled in the TUM Graduate Center, where you will:

  • Acquire advanced methodological and research skills
  • Participate in structured doctoral training and qualification programs
  • Benefit from continuous academic and professional development opportunities

Your Research May Focus On Topics Such As

  • The impact of artificial intelligence on corporate strategy
  • The integration of digital technologies into strategic decision-making
  • Competitive dynamics in international markets

Applicant’s Profile

  • You hold an excellent university degree in business administration, business information systems, or a related field (or will graduate soon).
  • You have gained practical experience through internships or relevant professional work.
  • You possess solid knowledge in strategic management as well as finance and accounting; programming skills are advantageous.
  • You demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, enjoy working in a team, and are highly motivated to conduct scientific research.
  • You have excellent German and English language skills.
  • Additional practical experience in relevant fields is considered a plus.

Our Offer We offer a structured doctoral program designed to enable completion of the PhD within three years (see chair website).

Doctoral Candidates Can Choose Between

  • Internal doctoral position (employment at the chair with remuneration according to TV-L, pay grade E13), or
  • External doctoral project, provided sufficient on-site presence at TUM in accordance with university regulations is ensured.
