Your Role As an Associate in the Private Equity Financial Institutions team, you play a key role in delivering FMO's private equity strategy. You work closely with Investment Officers to manage and grow a portfolio of investments, build strong relationships with investees, and contribute to creating both financial and development impact.
In addition to portfolio management, you support the investment process from origination to execution and contribute to strategic initiatives within the team and the broader Private Equity department. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine analytical work, stakeholder engagement, and exposure to investments across emerging markets.
Specifically, You Will Be Responsible For
- Managing a portfolio of direct and fund investments together with Investment Officers.
- Preparing investment reviews and fair value assessments.
- Processing disbursements, capital calls, change requests, and other portfolio-related activities.
- Contributing to sector analyses and strategy development.
- Participating in management-level meetings and calls with investees, typically together with Investment Officers.
- Supporting Investment Officers throughout the investment lifecycle, including the evaluation of new opportunities and portfolio exits.
Our Offer For This Position We Offer You
- Gross yearly salary ranging from EUR 55-65K (based on 40 hours/ week, including 8% holiday allowance and 13th month) depending on your seniority, years of relevant experience, and background .
- Working hours: 40 hours per week
- Pension scheme, partly paid by FMO.
- 31 holidays
- Hybrid way of working (50/50).
- Working remotely abroad for maximum 60 days in a rolling period of 12 months.

Your Team Private Equity is an important part of FMO's business. By providing growth capital in emerging markets, we support companies that contribute to sustainable economic development while generating attractive risk-adjusted returns.
The Financial Institutions (PE FI) team consists of 11 diverse investment professionals with a shared passion for investing and creating meaningful impact. The team manages a portfolio of direct investments in banks, microfinance institutions (MFIs), and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), as well as investments through the FMO-A and MASSIF portfolios.
As an Associate , you will work in a collaborative, international environment where team members actively support one another and contribute to the continued growth and success of the portfolio.
Your Background
- Master's degree, preferably in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience within banking, investments, private equity, corporate finance, or a related financial environment.
- Experience supporting investment activities, financial analysis, financial modelling, or market assessments.
- Experience with Private Equity and/or Financial Institutions is considered an advantage.
- International experience or exposure to different cultures is highly valued.
