Job description

Founding Senior Product Designer (AI-Native B2B SaaS)

Location: Berlin (Hybrid)

Salary: Competitive + Equity

The Opportunity

We're partnering with a well-funded early-stage AI software company that is rethinking how an entire professional industry operates.

Rather than layering AI onto existing software, the business is building an AI-native platform that replaces fragmented, manual workflows with a single intelligent workspace. Backed by leading European venture capital investors and working closely with a growing group of design partners and early customers, the company is now entering the critical Product-Market Fit stage.

As one of the earliest design hires, you'll have genuine influence over the product, the user experience and ultimately the success of the business.

This is a rare opportunity for a designer who wants to move beyond polishing interfaces and instead help define how people will work in an AI-first future.

The Role

This is a true Founding Product Designer position.

You'll work directly alongside the founders, engineering team and early customers, taking ownership of the entire design process-from understanding customer problems through to designing and shipping production-ready solutions.

Rather than joining an established design function, you'll help build one.

Your work will shape product direction, influence strategy and have a direct impact on achieving Product-Market Fit.

What You'll Be Doing

Lead Product Discovery

Customer understanding sits at the centre of the role.

You'll regularly speak with users, observe how they work and uncover opportunities to simplify complex workflows.

You'll be expected to:

  • Run frequent customer interviews
  • Observe real-world user behaviour
  • Identify friction and inefficiencies
  • Turn research into actionable product opportunities
  • Validate ideas before engineering invests time building them
  • Challenge assumptions using evidence rather than opinion

Design AI-Native Experiences

Rather than designing individual screens, you'll design complete workflows.

You'll rethink how people complete complex tasks by combining thoughtful UX with AI-powered interactions.

Projects may include:

  • Intelligent inbox management
  • AI-assisted communication
  • Document automation
  • Workflow orchestration
  • Customer onboarding
  • Operational processes
  • AI copilots and assistants
  • Human-AI collaboration experiences

The focus is always on helping users complete work dramatically faster and more effectively than today's software allows.

Take Ideas Through to Delivery

You'll bridge the gap between research and engineering, owning the design process from early concepts through to launch.

This includes:

  • User journeys
  • Service flows
  • Wireframes
  • Interactive prototypes
  • High-fidelity interface design
  • Design QA
  • Collaboration with engineers throughout delivery

You'll know when rough sketches are enough to learn quickly—and when pixel-perfect design is needed.

Shape Product Quality

You'll obsess over creating products that users trust.

This means continually improving:

  • Usability
  • Information architecture
  • Onboarding
  • Accessibility
  • Interaction quality
  • Consistency across the product

Build the Design Foundations

As one of the first design hires, you'll also establish the systems that allow the product to scale.

You'll contribute to:

  • Design systems
  • Component libraries
  • Design patterns
  • Documentation
  • AI interaction standards
  • Design principles

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving difficult product problems rather than simply executing design requests.

You'll likely have:

  • Around 5-8+ years' experience designing modern B2B SaaS products
  • Strong UX and interaction design skills
  • Excellent visual design and UI craft
  • Experience conducting customer research and discovery
  • Confidence validating ideas before development begins
  • Experience working closely with engineers and product teams
  • Strong systems thinking
  • The ability to thrive in ambiguity and fast-moving environments
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous startup or scale-up experience

Additional experience in AI products, workflow software, automation platforms or enterprise SaaS would be highly beneficial.

The Type of Person Who Will Thrive

This opportunity suits someone who naturally asks:

"What's the real problem we're solving?"

rather than:

"What should this interface look like?"

You're curious, commercially minded and excited by continuous learning.

You enjoy speaking directly with customers, testing assumptions and turning complex workflows into elegant experiences.

Most importantly, you're motivated by ownership and want to help build a company—not simply design features.

How the Team Works

The culture is built around:

  • Customer obsession
  • Rapid experimentation
  • High ownership
  • Low ego
  • Continuous shipping
  • Honest feedback
  • Evidence-led decision-making

There are very few layers of management, giving designers direct access to founders, engineers and customers on a daily basis.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first six months, you'll have:

  • Established a regular customer discovery programme
  • Shipped multiple high-impact product improvements
  • Helped build a scalable design system
  • Improved user activation and onboarding
  • Reduced friction across key user journeys
  • Become a trusted strategic partner to both engineering and the founding team
  • Influenced product strategy through customer insight rather than opinion

AI-First by Design

This company believes AI should fundamentally change how software works—not simply automate existing interfaces.

Designers are expected to think deeply about:

  • Human-AI collaboration
  • AI-assisted workflows
  • Agent experiences
  • Intelligent automation
  • Prompt and interaction design
  • Removing steps rather than adding features

AI is embedded into both the product itself and the way the team works day-to-day.

Why Join?

This isn't a role where you'll inherit years of design decisions.

You'll help define them.

If you're looking for the opportunity to build a category-defining AI product alongside experienced founders, influence company strategy from day one and see your ideas reach customers within days rather than months, this is one of the most exciting design opportunities currently available in Europe's AI ecosystem.
