Job description

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Business Development:

  • Develop and execute market entry and expansion strategies for African countries (priority regions: South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania);
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities: distributor networks, tenders from international, government procurement, and partnerships with local laboratories and hospitals;
  • Conduct competitive analysis and monitor regulatory changes in target countries.

Partner Network Development:

  • Source, select, and onboard distributors and agents across African countries;
  • Negotiate and execute distribution agreements in compliance with Swiss and international law;
  • Provide training and support to partners regarding the product portfolio, regulatory matters, and technical aspects;
  • Organize and manage the company's participation in key industry exhibitions (Medlab Middle East, Africa Health, Arab Health, Medica).

Regulatory Expertise:

  • Ensure product compliance with the requirements of regulatory authorities in African countries;
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and consultants on medical device registration;
  • Coordinate with the Regulatory Affairs department to accelerate registration processes.

Scientific and Technical Expertise:

  • Possess a deep understanding of the biotechnological, biological, and chemical foundations of the company's products;
  • Participate in scientific presentations, webinars, and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) events;
  • Translate the scientific advantages of the products into business value propositions for partners and end customers.

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Generate sales forecasts and pipeline reports;
  • Prepare business cases for the investment committee;
  • Provide quarterly business reporting.

⁠Requirements:

  • Higher education in biotechnology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, medicine, or related sciences (Master's degree or higher);
  • At least 3–5 years of business development experience in African markets, proven by a successful track record (distribution contracts, tenders, registrations);
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the medical devices sector (IVD, diagnostics, medical devices);
  • Strong knowledge of medical device regulations: Swiss, European, and key African jurisdictions;
  • Fluent in English and French;
  • Willingness to travel frequently to African countries;
  • Valid Swiss work permit or Swiss citizenship.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and a results-oriented approach;
  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to the African business context;
  • Ability to work autonomously in a highly dynamic and uncertain environment;
  • Excellent negotiation and presentation skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with international tenders;
  • Publications or a strong scientific background in biotechnology/diagnostics;
  • An existing network of contacts within the Ministries of Health in African countries;
  • Previous experience working in a Swiss or international biotech company.
