Application Engineer - Software and Systems Integrator

The Application Engineer plays a key role in designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining software used in fixed-base flight simulators and other high-tech aviation or industrial applications. Operating right at the intersection of application software, system modeling, and embedded I/O, you ensure seamless integration between systems and hardware. You troubleshoot complex issues, modernize existing software, and develop diagnostic tools to optimize performance and reliability. In addition, you provide high-level technical support to customers and internal teams during development, integration, and field deployment.

What will you be doing?

You will be involved in developing software primarily in C++ and C#, building interfaces with embedded systems, control systems, and physical I/O. Working cross-functionally with hardware, systems, and quality teams, you will develop and validate system models to test system behavior. In addition, you will:

• Perform high-level troubleshooting across application software, embedded systems, networks, and hardware
• Maintain, modernize, and update existing software while managing compatibility and product risks
• Develop diagnostic and test tools to make system behavior observable and repeatable
• Integrate and diagnose communication interfaces and avionics data-bus protocols
• Prepare and maintain clear technical reports, system architecture descriptions, and test plans

Who are you?

As an Application Engineer, you are analytical, structured in your troubleshooting approach, and a strong cross-functional team player. You also bring:

• HBO working and thinking level in Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or a related field
• 3–5 years of experience in software application engineering (ideally within aviation, aerospace, or multidisciplinary engineering)
• Strong programming skills in C++ and/or C# and experience with system modeling
• Excellent communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus)
• Nice to have: Experience with real-time OS (e.g. Linux), MATLAB/Simulink, HIL testing, avionics protocols (ARINC 429/AFDX), or FAA/EASA certification processes
