Application Engineer - Electronics and Systems

The Application Engineer plays a key role in designing, integrating, and maintaining the electrical and electronic systems used in fixed-base flight simulators and other high-tech applications. Based in Utrecht, NL, you will operate right at the intersection of electronics, embedded I/O, software, and physical simulator hardware. You will define simulator-level electrical architectures, manage wiring and pcb-designs, and perform hands-on troubleshooting. In addition, you will modernize existing products, manage component obsolescence, and provide high-level technical support to internal teams (including production in Dresden, DE) and customers.

What will you be doing?

You will be involved in designing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable definitions, and custom electronic hardware. Working cross-functionally with software, embedded, systems, and quality teams, as well as external suppliers, you will ensure all physical and digital interfaces integrate seamlessly. In addition, you will:

• Define simulator-level power distribution, signal distribution, and interface requirements
• Perform high-level troubleshooting using equipment like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers
• Integrate sensors, analogue/digital I/O, and communication protocols (e.g. Ethernet, CAN, serial)
• Maintain, modernize, and update existing hardware while managing component risks and obsolescence
• Prepare and maintain clear electrical design documentation, schematics, test plans, and technical reports

Who are you?

As an Application Engineer, you have a strong practical mindset, a structured troubleshooting approach, and a collaborative spirit. You also bring:

• HBO working and thinking level in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Aerospace (an MBO + HBO pathway or an MBO-4 Aircraft Technician background with relevant experience is also highly valued)
• 1–3 years of experience in electronics, electrical systems, or multidisciplinary engineering
• Practical experience creating electrical schematics, using measurement tools, and integrating hardware with software
• Excellent communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus)
• Nice to have: Experience with avionics equipment/protocols (ARINC 429, AFDX), industrial protocols like SERCOS III, modBus, canBus, or tooling such as SolidWorks Electrical.
