Job description

The Shift Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth and uninterrupted operation of systems during assigned shifts. Shift Engineer monitors system performance, logs critical incidents, and communicates promptly with the Customer and Management teams. Shift Engineer ensures timely fault resolution and supports the execution of preventive maintenance activities as assigned by the Maintenance Engineer (ME).

  • Reports to Manager/Assistant Manager on all system-related issues.

  • Ensures that the system is operating normally.

  • Monitors the system for faults and any other faults in the flow of baggage.

  • Oversees the Control Room Senior and Technical Officers in the discharge of their duties.

  • Ensures prompt response to all faults by immediately despatching technicians to attend to the faults.

  • Ensures prompt diversion of baggage during breakdowns.  This is to ensure that the flow of baggage remains uninterrupted.

  • Ensures prompt evacuation of bags in the event that the baggage flow is blocked due to no alternative route.

  • Monitors the system for any baggage that is late and has the possibility of being shortshipped.

  • Ensures prompt attention to damaged and shortshipped bags.

  • Provides prompt information to CP Management/client on all system-related faults and provides regular status updates.

  • Works closely with CP Management on system related problems.

  • Ensure proper despatch of personnel to ensure prompt breakdown recovery.

  • Ensure that the operations log books are updated and that all occurrences are recorded.

  • Ensure that the PM Schedule is completed as scheduled.

  • Manage personal and general Tools.

  • Ensure the personal discipline of all staff in his team.

  • Ensure that the routine checks are carried out as scheduled.

  • Conduct system start up checks daily before the start of operations.

  • Provide support to CP Management during system troubleshooting/updates.

  • Perform scheduled system switchovers/reboots of the servers as scheduled or as instructed by the CP Management.

  • Technical and procedural support to technicians.

  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of all equipment in the Baggage Handling System (including sorters, conveyor systems, software, hardware, electrical, mechanical components, and network systems) to effectively perform fault diagnosis, minimize downtime, and ensure rapid recovery

  • Training and monitoring performance of technicians.

  • Removal and installation procedure for BHS equipment/components.

  • Carry out other assignments as assigned by CP management.

  • Ensure all shift personnel adhere to safety working in the airport.

  • Degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent or

  • Diploma in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years experience in the installation and maintenance of conveyors, heavy machinery, plant and equipment.

  • Experience in Material Handling System will be additional advantage

  • Must be a team player who is quick to learn

  • Able to work on rotating shift
