Introduction
Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges involving high voltage, high current and fast electrical pulses? You will join an ambitious nanotechnology scale-up in Delft developing advanced technology that accelerates the discovery of new materials.
At the heart of the technology are precisely controlled electrical discharges used to generate nanoparticles. This creates unique engineering challenges where high voltage, high current, fast switching and pulsed power come together.
As part of a small multidisciplinary Product Development team, you will take broad technical ownership of the electrical systems behind this technology. This is a hands-on engineering role: you will develop and improve electrical concepts, but you will also spend significant time in the lab building, measuring, testing and debugging real systems.
You will work closely with senior technical experts and have the opportunity to grow with the company, potentially developing into a leading technical role within electrical engineering as the organisation scales.
Your responsibilities
You will work on the development and industrialisation of complex electrical systems, with a particular focus on high-voltage, high-current and pulsed-power applications.
- Design, analyse, test and improve high-voltage (>1 kV), high-current (>100 A) and fast-switching electrical systems.
- Develop and improve pulsed-power and pulse-generation concepts used to create short, controlled electrical discharges.
- Work on electrical and power-electronics challenges at both component and system level.
- Investigate switching behaviour, electromagnetic effects, parasitics, thermal behaviour and EMC/EMI, and translate your findings into practical design improvements.
- Build, test, measure and troubleshoot prototypes and electrical systems in the laboratory.
- Diagnose complex electrical problems and perform root-cause analysis when prototypes or systems do not behave as expected.
- Select and evaluate electrical components, power components, cabling, connectors and subsystems.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Support system integration, validation and the transition from experimental setups to robust, scalable products.
- Contribute where needed to adjacent areas such as motor control, PLC integration, embedded electronics and electrical architecture.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, technicians and researchers from different technical disciplines.
- Ensure designs meet relevant electrical safety and EMC requirements and maintain clear technical documentation.
Because the electrical team is still relatively small, the scope is intentionally broad. You will not be limited to one specialist area: designing, testing, debugging and practical integration are all part of the role.
Company profile
You will join an ambitious nanotechnology scale-up based in Den Haag that develops advanced equipment for the production and application of nanoparticles. Its technology enables researchers and industrial companies to accelerate the discovery and development of new materials with applications in areas such as green hydrogen, gas sensing and battery technology.
The technology combines nanotechnology, physics and advanced electrical engineering. Controlled electrical discharges are an essential part of the process, creating challenging engineering problems involving high voltage, fast electrical pulses and complex system behaviour.
You will work in a small, international and multidisciplinary development team of approximately 15 people. Electrical engineering is closely integrated with other engineering and research disciplines, so communication and collaboration are essential.
The culture is entrepreneurial, hands-on and non-hierarchical. Engineers are expected to take ownership, contribute outside their immediate specialism when necessary and turn technical ideas into working hardware. The company has modern laboratory facilities in Delft where systems are designed, built, tested and continuously improved.
Your profile
- You hold a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or a comparable technical discipline.
- You have approximately 4+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, power electronics, high-voltage engineering, R&D or complex technical system development.
- You have a strong technical foundation in high-voltage engineering, power electronics, pulsed power, high-current systems or fast-switching electronics.
- Experience with pulse generators, pulsed-power systems or short high-voltage electrical pulses is particularly relevant for this position.
- You understand the challenges associated with high voltage, high current and fast switching, including effects such as parasitics, EMI/EMC and thermal behaviour.
- You are comfortable combining analytical and simulation-based engineering with practical experimentation.
- Most importantly, you enjoy being hands-on: building setups, taking measurements, troubleshooting hardware and debugging systems in the lab.
- You can work at both component and system level and understand how individual electrical design choices influence the behaviour of the complete machine.
- You enjoy a technically broad position and are willing to work outside your primary specialism when a problem needs to be solved.
- You communicate clearly and can explain complex electrical topics to colleagues from different technical backgrounds.
- You are independent and solution-oriented while enjoying close collaboration within a small multidisciplinary team.
- You are interested in taking increasing technical ownership as the company and electrical engineering function continue to grow.
Nice to have:
- Experience developing pulse generators, pulsed-power electronics or fast high-voltage switching systems.
- Experience with power semiconductor switching technologies such as MOSFETs or IGBTs.
- Experience with electrical or multiphysics simulation tools such as LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS, COMSOL or similar.
- Experience with machine development, complex equipment or industrial R&D.
- Experience with practical EMC/EMI troubleshooting and electrical measurements.
- Experience with PCB or electrical design tools such as KiCad or comparable software.
- Experience with microcontrollers, embedded electronics, PLCs or motor control.
You do not need to be an expert in all of these areas. Technical depth is important, but so are curiosity, versatility and the willingness to solve problems outside your immediate field of expertise.
