Are you an enthusiastic book and paper conservator who enjoys sharing your practical expertise with students? We are looking for a junior lecturer to join our Book and Paper Conservation specialization for one year. In this role, you will contribute to practical teaching within one of Europe's leading conservation programmes.
Working at the UvA Learn by Teaching We are looking for an enthusiastic junior lecturer to strengthen the Book and Paper Conservation specialization within the Master's and Advanced Professional Program (APP) in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage.
Working closely with the senior lecturers, you will support practical teaching, help organize studio-based education, and guide students in developing professional conservation skills. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career conservator to gain teaching experience while working in an internationally recognized conservation program.
- A good salary Your salary will be determined on the basis of your experience and seniority, in accordance with the Labour agreement. Your grading and therefore the amounts mentioned are based on full employment of 38 hours per week.
- 232 vacation hours We also offer parental leave, partner leave and social engagement leave. Through the Employment Conditions Menu Card, there are opportunities for even more vacation hours.
- Financial arrangements On top of your salary, you receive holiday allowance (8%) and a year-end bonus (8.3%). You build up a good pension with ABP. And in addition, we offer many other allowances and schemes.

All About This Vacancy This is what you will be doing
- supporting the senior Book and Paper Conservation lecturers in the preparation and organization of practical education;
- teaching practical conservation skills within the Book and Paper Conservation specialization;
- contributing to practical teaching in the Minor and Master's program in Conservation and Restoration;
- supporting workshops and project-based education across the conservation curriculum;
- providing input for the assessment of first-year students under the supervision of the senior lecturers.
This Is What We Ask Of You
- a completed Master's degree and Advanced Professional Program (APP) in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, specializing in Book and Paper Conservation (or an equivalent program);
- demonstrable practical skills in book and paper conservation;
- the ability to clearly explain and demonstrate practical conservation techniques to students;
- excellent organizational skills and the ability to work accurately in a teaching environment;
- a collaborative attitude and enthusiasm to work closely with colleagues.
Because this is a temporary one-year appointment aimed at an early-career conservator, possession of a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO) is not required upon appointment. This Is What Else We Offer You

Your place at the UvA This is where you will be working You will join the Conservation and Restoration capacity group, a team of approximately 30 colleagues dedicated to the education and research in cultural heritage conservation. Teaching takes place primarily in the conservation studios of the Ateliergebouw, shared with the Rijksmuseum and the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE), and in the Humanities Labs of the University of Amsterdam. This unique environment offers close collaboration with leading professionals in the conservation field.
About The Faculty Of Humanities From modern and classical languages, history, arts and culture, archaeology, religious studies and philosophy to new media, digital humanities, and conservation and restoration, the Faculty of Humanities encompasses a broad spectrum of innovative teaching and research. Based in the historic heart of Amsterdam, it maintains close ties with many partners in the cultural sector, society and the business community. In doing so, it forms part of a humanities hub of international standing.
