Junior Professor (W1)

in Design and Technologies of

Advanced Power Electronic

Components

at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and

Information Technology

We are inviting applications for a junior professor position in the area of

design and technologies of advanced power electronic components, to

be filled as soon as possible. Outstanding expertise is expected in several

of the following areas:

  • Layout and design of smart power electronics modules
  • Smart multi-chip modules for power electronics applications
  • Assembly and interconnection technology for power electronics com-

ponents and modules, and their implementation

  • Reliability analysis, characterization, and testing of power electronics modules and their semiconductor components

  • Simulation and advanced design methods for power electronics mo-

dules

with primary applications in electric drive technology, robotics, AI data

centers, and power supply.

The field of energy is extensively represented at RWTH Aachen University

and is being further expanded. Currently, major challenges are emerging

in the context of the energy transition (phase-out of coal, including in the

Rhineland mining region; CO2 neutrality; sector coupling; and digitaliza-

tion), along with the associated need for innovative technologies. Close

collaboration with other chairs in the field of energy engineering within the

Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is expected.

In particular, collaboration within the Center for Ageing, Reliability, and

Lifetime Prediction of Electrochemical and Power Electronic Systems

(CARL) and the Research Campus Flexible Electrical Grids (FEN) is en-

couraged.

Candidates should have a university degree and a particular ability to un-

dertake academic work, which is generally demonstrated by an out-

standing doctorate. Teaching ability and dedication are essential and the

application should include proof of this. Fluent German is not required to

start the position but the successful candidate will be expected to hold

classes in German within the first 5 years.
