As a Technical Specialist - Secondary Protection & Control, you will provide technical expertise and engineering support for protection, control, SCADA, RTU, substation automation, and digital solutions. Working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams, you will contribute to solution development, project execution, testing, commissioning, and lifecycle support while ensuring technical excellence, quality, and compliance.
How you'll make an impact

Provide technical expertise and engineering solutions for Secondary Protection & Control systems across service, retrofit, upgrade, and EMU projects.

Support protection-related enquiries, technical studies, solution development, tendering, bidding, and proposal preparation activities.

Collaborate with customers, vendors, sales, and tendering teams to understand requirements and develop competitive, compliant, and value-driven solutions.

Design and develop Secondary Protection & Control, SCADA, RTU, and Substation Automation solutions in accordance with customer specifications, industry standards, and Hitachi Energy engineering practices.

Identify opportunities for digitalization and service enhancement by evaluating operational needs, technical feasibility, and business value.

Support the integration of third-party devices into Digital Aggregators and Substation Automation Systems, including communication analysis, data mapping, configuration, testing, and validation.

Participate in engineering, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, troubleshooting, start-up, and lifecycle support activities.

Assess technical risks, support issue resolution, and implement appropriate mitigation actions to ensure successful project delivery.

Prepare and maintain high-quality technical documentation, engineering designs, test procedures, reports, commissioning records, and customer deliverables.

Support the design, implementation, verification, and validation of interfaces between protection, control, SCADA, RTU, and communication systems.

Provide technical leadership, guidance, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to support continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

Develop and deliver technical presentations, workshops, and customer-facing discussions to communicate solution benefits and project requirements.

Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, cybersecurity practices, and engineering methodologies to enhance solution performance and reliability.

Collaborate with project managers, product managers, line managers, customers, and partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Ensure compliance with applicable internal policies, customer requirements, industry regulations, quality standards, and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements.

Your background

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
-
Minimum 10 years of experience in Secondary Protection & Control, Substation Automation, SCADA, RTU, or related power system engineering environments.

Strong knowledge of Protection Relays, SCADA Systems, RTUs, and Substation Automation Systems.
-
Knowledge of communication protocols including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, PRP, HSR, RSTP, and GOOSE.

Experience in engineering design, technical studies, FAT, SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support activities for power and automation systems.

Knowledge of Windows, Windows Server, and Linux operating systems.

Understanding of engineering processes, tools, and documentation associated with protection, control, and automation projects.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex technical assignments independently.

Understanding of industrial cybersecurity principles and secure integration practices for protection, control, and automation systems.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams, customers, suppliers, and partners.

Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring, and support to colleagues and project teams.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within project timelines.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.
