Research Collaboration Call

Lab of Neuroarts UG built something that guarantees researchers won't run out of questions for the next twenty years. We checked. We are not sorry.

LONA is a research infrastructure with a product interface: a multimodal observational environment for neuroarts, social prescribing, creative health, and the longitudinal study of expressive behaviour across lifetimes and generations.

Six expressive modalities. No established psychometric baselines. A participant community engaging continuously in ecological conditions. A neuroarchitecture where the rooms themselves (their acoustic, visual, and atmospheric conditions) are measurement variables. Transition events between rooms as a new measurement class. A Research Rail that synchronises lab-grade signals across every step of the participant journey, with full consent governance. We built it as a socket. You bring the protocol, the ethics sponsorship, and the analytical lens. You plug in with participant consent. The infrastructure receives you. The participant community is already there. The signals are already running.

What this means for the field of Neuroarts?

Neuroarts has been building its theoretical base for years. What it has lacked is ecological infrastructure: a way to study the actual effects of actual creative engagement on actual people, longitudinally, with research-grade signal fidelity, outside a controlled lab.

LONA is that infrastructure. And because no field has had access to it before, there are no psychometric baselines, no measurement norms, and no prior longitudinal datasets for any of the six modalities.

For a researcher, that is either unsettling or the opportunity of a career. We think it is the second one.

What this means for the Health System?

Social prescribing is expanding. Health systems and commissioners are being asked to fund cultural and creative referral pathways without the longitudinal outcome data that would justify that investment at scale.

LONA is built to generate that data, not as a side effect but as a structural feature. The potential convergence between neuroarts, social prescribing, and preventive health is enormous. The research that would demonstrate it does not yet exist. It needs to be built now, in the environments where the effects actually occur, with the people and partners who are already there.

What this means for you?

You get access to a functioning participant community. Six novel expressive modalities with no prior baseline. Lab-grade signal synchronisation across every room and every transition. A neuroarchitecture where the built space is itself a research variable. And the genuine possibility of being among the people who define how this field is studied for the next generation.

What LONA provides?

A participant community engaging with six expressive modalities.

A consent-gated research pipeline with lab-grade signal synchronisation (LSL, BrainFlow, OpenBCI, MNE-Python, PsychoPy).

Transition events as novel measurement layers not captured by existing clinical instruments.

The neuroarchitecture itself: rooms whose spatial, acoustic, and atmospheric conditions are measurement variables.

A pre-signed CRediT authorship agreement: LONA 's infrastructure contribution named, the institute's analytical and methodological lead named, in place before the first data point is collected.

What a research partner brings?

Ethikkommission or IRB sponsorship, a pre-registered study protocol, the analytical infrastructure to make observational data publishable.

Where we are working first?

The current LONA prototype has configured jurisdictions for Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. First pilots are forming in these three countries. We are prioritising research partnerships from here. Other jurisdictions are being added.
