In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire R&D process, including product performance testing, validation, and ensuring product safety and reliability. You will lead a team of ca 120 R&D employees and manage a budget of over 50 MUSD. You will collaborate closely with the division presidents and other senior leaders to ensure that all product releases meet the highest standards before launch. Technology scouting beyond turbocharging is managed and governed by the Business Development function, but you and your experts will support the process. Located in Baden, you will report to the CEO and be part of the extended management team.  

Your responsibilities:

R&D Strategy and Leadership:

Lead and manage the turbocharging R&D department to drive the development of new products, components, technologies and engineering methodologies aligned with the company’s strategic goals.

Define and execute the TC R&D strategy ensuring it supports the company's vision and objectives.

Foster an innovative environment that encourages creative solutions, research breakthroughs, and efficient development processes.

Secure that the R&D budget is spent efficiently on related projects and initiatives.

Represent the company in industry organizations and initiatives, (eg. CIMAC Greenhouse Gas Strategy Group, Swissmem industry sector for the internal combustion engine industry), and support the Swiss IMO delegation.

Product Development and Innovation:

Oversee the development of new products from concept through to prototype, ensuring that each product meets performance, safety, and reliability standards.

Manage the research and design process to ensure efficient, cost-effective product development that reflects the customer needs and is in line with Accelleron Product Market Strategy.

Product Performance Testing and Validation:

Ensure that robust testing and validation processes are in place to assess product performance and reliability with adherence to safety and quality standards.

Maintain and continuously develop testing and computing infrastructure.

Focus on improving product performance, reliability and safety.

Identify potential risks and implement corrective actions throughout the product lifecycle.

Collaboration with Management:

Work closely with the Division Presidents and senior management to ensure alignment on product development goals and timelines.

Jointly approve and sign-off on all product releases with the Division Presidents to ensure that all products meet the required standards before market launch.

Enhance the opportunities that AI provides in collaboration with Digital division.

Collaborate with Vice President Strategy and Investor Relations on scouting of new technologies.

Continuous Improvement:

Identify opportunities for process improvements within the R&D department and across the organization to optimize efficiency and productivity.

Stay current on industry trends, research methodologies, AI and emerging technologies to maintain competitive advantage and drive innovation.

Build and maintain networks with diverse stakeholders such as universities, research institutions and associations to gain broad perspective of development.

Leadership and Development:

Lead, mentor, and manage the R&D team, ensuring that each member is supported in their professional development and empowered to contribute to the team’s success.

Secure that competences needed now and in the future are acquired and developed.

Foster a collaborative, high-performance and effective safety culture within the department. 

Your background:

In depth understanding of turbocharging technology is a central succession factor

Proven experience leading an R&D team, preferably in a senior or head-of-department role, within a technology-driven industry.

Strong background in product development, research methodologies, and technology management related to turbocharging.

Experience in product performance testing, validation, safety, and reliability assessments.

Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.

Strong ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.

Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, or a related field.
