Rolls-Royce Germany is offering an exciting opportunity for the position Materials Engineer (m/f/d) in Dahlewitz near Berlin. We are seeking a personality for our interdisciplinary team who combines scientific depth with strategic vision. As a Materials Scientist with project management responsibilities, you will play a key role in the development of innovative materials and oversee projects from the initial idea through to successful implementation.
Key Responsibilities

To resolve material related problems through evaluative judgements. Analyses factual information from multiple sources, interprets results and identifies effective solutions by applying their own technical knowledge, expertise and engineering judgement.

Provide expert technical guidance on selection and application of high-temperature alloys (e.g. Ni-based superalloys and advanced high-temperature materials) for aero engine components.

Support design teams in defining material specifications, allowable properties, and application limits based on operating environment (temperature, stress, oxidation, creep, fatigue, and thermal cycling conditions).

support root-cause investigations of material-related service issues, in-service failures, and manufacturing non-conformances involving high-temperature alloys.

Interface with casting, forging, powder metallurgy, additive manufacturing, and coating suppliers to ensure process capability aligns with material application requirements.

Develop and maintain material specifications, design allowables, and application guidelines in line with airworthiness and certification standards (e.g., EASA CS-E, FAA Part 33).

Support qualification and certification programs, including material testing plans, data review, and substantiation reports.

Collaborate with R&D teams on evaluation of new/emerging high-temperature materials and coating systems for future engine programs.

Provide input to Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and lifing methodologies related to material degradation mechanisms (creep, oxidation, hot corrosion, thermal-mechanical fatigue).
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

5+ years of experience with aerospace materials.

Knowledge of mechanical characterisation, manufacturing processes and degradation mechanisms

Familiarity with non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methods and metallographic analysis.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings and aerospace specifications.

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
