Job description

About Marvell

Marvell’s semiconductor solutions are the essential building blocks of the data infrastructure that connects our world. Across enterprise, cloud and AI, and carrier architectures, our innovative technology is enabling new possibilities.

At Marvell, you can affect the arc of individual lives, lift the trajectory of entire industries, and fuel the transformative potential of tomorrow. For those looking to make their mark on purposeful and enduring innovation, above and beyond fleeting trends, Marvell is a place to thrive, learn, and lead.

Your Team, Your Impact Your team develops silicon photonics-based optical engines and components at the heart of next-generation AI and Data Center infrastructure, directly shaping how AI systems connect and scale. Join a group of curious, highly motivated engineers embedded in a culture that is flexible, open, highly international and diverse, and genuinely people-centered.

Zurich consistently ranks among the world's top cities for quality of living for expatriates and is Europe's leading tech hub, a city that seamlessly blends multicultural innovation with stunning natural surroundings.

What You Can Expect

  • Drive the integration of silicon photonic device fabrication into foundry partners by planning and executing specialty process development and nanofabrication trials in the cleanroom, then support the transfer of qualified processes to leading-edge foundry partners.

  • Write clear, reproducible process documentation and specifications ready for handover.

  • Provide design rules, process limitations, manufacturability guidelines, and DFM guidance to design engineering. Prepare designs for tape-out including DRC sign-off, waiver management and process readiness verification.

  • Support yield improvement through design-process co-optimization; contribute to excursion investigation and containment both in the lab and in collaboration with external partners. Perform in-depth analysis of device processing; compare results against simulation, identify root causes, and translate findings into concrete design and process improvements for technology integration.

  • Collaborate across teams, connecting design, verification, operations, and foundry partners. Communicate technical results clearly to colleagues and program leadership.

What We're Looking For

  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field.

  • Solid grounding in integrated photonics device physics, optical component design, semiconductor fabrication processes, and device testing.

  • 3+ years of hands-on cleanroom experience in lithography, dry/wet etching, thin-film deposition, and metrology.

  • Experience with PIC design, layout and simulations.

  • Proactive, self-starting energy — you take ownership of your work, set the pace for those around you, and consistently deliver high-quality results.

  • Ability to collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and comfortable engaging directly with external partners

  • Strong problem-solving and adaptability skills, willingness to pivot or iterate quickly based on results and evolving project needs.

  • English proficiency required, German is a plus

In-depth experience in two or more of the following:

  • Proficiency in photonic simulation tools (Lumerical or equivalent) and code-based PIC layout tools (Synopsys or equivalent).

  • Working with external PDKs and design rule frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience in tape-out related support or foundry logistics within a fab or fabless semiconductor environment.

  • Experience with optical device characterization and testing.

  • Deep understanding of advanced foundry process node across various technologies.

Additional Compensation and Benefit Elements

With competitive compensation and great benefits, you will enjoy our workstyle within an environment of shared collaboration, transparency, and inclusivity. We’re dedicated to giving our people the tools and resources they need to succeed in doing work that matters, and to grow and develop with us.
