Both markets advertise almost entirely in English, so language is not what separates them. Qarera's index holds 25,247 live postings in the United Kingdom and 13,463 in Australia. What differs is where the work sits and who is advertising it.
Every figure on this page is counted from postings collected directly from company career pages and applicant tracking systems, not from other job boards, and it refreshes daily.
| Measure | United Kingdom | Australia |
|---|---|---|
| Live job postingsadvertised right now | 25,247 | 13,463 |
| Postings written in Englishcount, and share of all postings | 25,210 (99.9%) | 13,429 (99.7%) |
| Remote-friendlyshare of all postings | 15.3% | 10.9% |
| Mention visa or relocation supportshare of English-language postings, not comparable across countries | 9.5% | 8.7% |
| Largest hiring cityshare of the country total | London (32.1%) | Sydney (26.7%) |
9.5% of English-language postings in the United Kingdom mention visa sponsorship or relocation support, against 8.7% in Australia. Those two numbers sit in the table above, and they should not be read as a ranking. The systems behind them differ in kind, so a posting's silence means a different thing in each country.
The United Kingdom
An employer needs a Home Office sponsor licence before it can hire most non-residents, and the Skilled Worker route requires an offer from a licensed sponsor. Sponsorship is a status the employer either holds or does not, which gives it a reason to say so in the advert.
Australia
Employer-sponsored visas require an approved sponsor, but points-tested skilled visas run without any employer, so a large part of skilled migration never touches a job advert.
The phrase match is blunt in both directions as well. It counts a posting that says sponsorship is available and a posting that says the candidate must already hold a valid work visa, and those point opposite ways. Read the share within one country over time, or across employers inside one country. Do not read it across two immigration regimes. Rules also change faster than any index; check the responsible authority before relying on the summaries above.
Sydney holds 26.7% of all postings in Australia. London holds 32.1% of the United Kingdom's. The second cities pull them further apart: Birmingham carries 982 postings against London's 8,100, while Melbourne carries 1,808 against Sydney's 3,596.
| # | United Kingdom | Postings | Australia | Postings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | London | 8,100 | Sydney | 3,596 |
| 2 | Birmingham | 982 | Melbourne | 1,808 |
| 3 | Manchester | 839 | Brisbane | 1,474 |
| 4 | Edinburgh | 583 | Perth | 1,203 |
| 5 | Leeds | 491 | Adelaide | 893 |
| 6 | Glasgow | 451 | Canberra | 440 |
Not every posting names a city, so these shares do not add up to 100%. The six cities above account for 45.3% of postings in the United Kingdom and 69.9% in Australia.
Neither market is held up by a handful of employers. The largest single advertiser in the United Kingdom, Leonardo, accounts for 1.1% of the country's live postings. In Australia it is Ramsay Health Care, at 1.7%. The lists below are what sits at the top of each market, which is a question of composition rather than concentration.
The United Kingdom advertises the higher share of remote-friendly work, 15.3% against 10.9%. A posting counts as remote-friendly when the advert itself says so, which understates hybrid roles that never spell it out.
Each of these is written to stand on its own, with the sample and the date inside the sentence.
