Job Title: Marine Electrician

Job Summary:
A Marine Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and testing electrical systems and equipment on ships, offshore vessels, and other marine facilities. The role ensures that all electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with marine industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, lighting, control panels, motors, generators, and distribution systems on marine vessels.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults using appropriate testing equipment and technical manuals.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Install and commission electrical equipment, including navigation, communication, and alarm systems.
  • Repair and maintain switchboards, circuit breakers, transformers, batteries, and power distribution systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Conduct insulation resistance, continuity, and functional testing of electrical systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with marine safety regulations, classification society requirements, and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and prepare service reports.
  • Coordinate with engineers, supervisors, and other technical personnel during maintenance and repair activities.
  • Follow safe work practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Respond to emergency electrical breakdowns and perform repairs to minimize operational downtime.

Qualifications

  • Diploma, ITI, Technical Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology.
  • Relevant experience as a Marine Electrician, Ship Electrician, or Offshore Electrician.
  • Knowledge of marine electrical systems, power generation, automation, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with marine safety standards and electrical regulations.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically fit and able to work onboard vessels, in confined spaces, and at heights when required.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with marine automation systems and PLCs.
  • Knowledge of navigation, communication, and instrumentation systems.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet maintenance schedules.
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance reporting and documentation.
